Ogun APC Campaign Council Member, MATICO Thumbs Gov. Abiodun Over 2024 NAFEST Hosting Right
ABEOKUTA – A member of 2023 APC Campaign Council in Ogun State, and sports administrator, Oluwaseun Adebowale has applauded Governor Dapo Abiodun and the entire citizens of Ogun State for winning the bid to host the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Adebowale who served as the Secretary Game Services Committee under Chief Falilat Ogunkoya at the 12th National Sports Festival tagged “Gateway Games 2006” said the state government’s bid to host the 22nd National Sports Festival would enhance the economic viability of the state.
Recalled that, Governor Abiodun had indicated the readiness of the state to host the 22nd Edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in 2024 when the 22nd National Sport Festival Evaluation Committee and also the Director, National Sport Festival/Para Sport Department, Ministry of Youths and Sports led by Peter Nelson paid a visit to the state in October, 2022.
But at the closing ceremony of the 21st National Sports Festival held in Asaba, Delta state on Sunday, the Sports Minister, Hon. Sunday Dare announced Ogun state as the wimner to host the 22nd edition of the Sports festival after a stiff competition from six other states.
MATICO who contested for the House of Assembly, Obafemi Owode State Constituency said the hosting of the sports festival by the state government would be the pinnacle of the sports development plan of Governor Abiodun in his second term.
He said the festival would avail the governor to showcase his monumental achievements to contingents coming to the state.
He posited that, the festival would improve the sporting facilities across the state and help the state’s athletes to have national recognition.
“Gov. Dapo Abiodun has proven to be a silent achiever once again with the winning right to host the 22nd National Sports Festival in 2024. Ogun State deserves the right with our historic successful edition in 2006.
“Governor Abiodun has really invested in infrastructural development of the state and created an enabling environment for sports to thrive in the state.
“So, winning the hosting bid would help the state government to galvanize its sports industry and boost the economy of the state.
“I am so sure that if they put things in place, there is no doubt in my mind that Ogun State should be able to repeat what they did in 2006 as the only state that ever hosted sports festival and made profit. This time around, I expect that it should be much better and I am expecting that the preparation should be much better than what we saw the last time. So, the preparation should start now,” he said.
