Ebonyi PDP Guber Crisis: Odii’s S’Court Victory Not Final – Ogba

ABAKALIKI – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship contender in Ebonyi State, Obinna Ogba, yesterday, said the recent Supreme Court judgement that returned his rival, Ifeanyi Odii, as the validly nominated candidate has not foreclosed his chances of flying the party’s ticket 2023.

The senator representing Ebonyi Central, reminded his supporters at his campaign office in Abakaliki, that the Appeal Court in Abuja recently upheld the cancellation of Odii’s election which held on May 28 and 29, 2022, and upheld his election as ordered by the party on June 4 and 5, 2022.

He said his rival had also appealed the Appeal Court ruling at the Supreme Court, adding that the judgement was being awaited.

He emphasised that the issue of primary was totally within the powers of the national leadership of the party, and that the power was rightly exercised by the party when it cancelled the primary which produced Odii and his team.

He expressed confidence in the supremacy of the party and further expressed hope the Supreme Court would eventually affirm his election and declare him the authentic candidate.

“We were waiting for primary and the party gave a notice that the election had been postponed to a future date. The party later rescheduled the primary and we participated and won. We believe in the supremacy of the party. The recent Supreme Court judgement is not the end of the matter. We are hopeful the supremacy of the party will be finally upheld by the Supreme Court,” he said.

Chairman of the party, Tochukwu Okorie, said the crisis being witnessed in the party was being instigated by forces that wanted desperately to stop the party from forming the next government in 2023.

“Irrespective of what has happened, our party will still form the next government in Ebonyi State. PDP is the only party in Ebonyi and nothing will stop us from taking back the state from APC,” he said
