ABEOKUTA – A House of Assembly aspirant in Ogun State and Balogun of Ilogbo, Chief Mustapha Abdulakeem Owolabi, popularly known as MAO on Wednesday donated medical equipment worth N.5m to Ijaye Health Centre, Abeokuta South local government, Ogun State.
MAO said that the donation was necessary due to lack of some vital medical equipment at the health centre.
He said the centre happened to be the first point of call in terms of health care in the local government.
He maintained that his efforts in donating the equipment, was to ease the pain of those with medical challenges and to help the health workers in providing effective and efficient healthcare services to the community at large.
Some of the equipment donated are; delivery beds for maternal and child health, electronic blood pressure monitor and baby scale post birth.
He said ”My attention was called to state of things at the health centre, Ijaiye, Abeokuta South Local Government, when I got there it really touched my heart that the health centre which serves the community doesn’t even basic item such as a blood pressure monitor and they were also lacking some items in maternal and child care department. The apparatus to check the blood pressure is the smallest thing that they need to have at the health centre as it is a simple method used to detect high blood pressure thereby preventing complication that may result from hypertension.
”When I got there my eyes were opened to more things they don’t have such as delivery bed to deliver pregnant women and many other items, so, I decided to donate some equipment and I promised to do more if eventually they need more.”
He called on the state government to take the dividends of democracy to the door step of the commoners by providing more resources to the local government.
He urged the health centre to ensure the equipment is properly used and maintained so as to reduce the pressure on the secondary and tertiary hospitals.
“I also want to use this medium to appeal to leaders and well meaning personalities in Abeokuta south to help the community where they can as times are hard in our country generally in Post Covid.
“We are doing this intervention, especially at the primary health centre, because I believe this is an area that is closest to the people. Maternal and child health is very dear to me”.
While receiving the items, the Matron of the Ijaye Health Centre, Mrs. Sangodare commended the politician for the gesture, describing him as a man of large heart.
She showered prayers on him, adding that politicians like him are very rare.
Mr. Sangodare, therefore, assured the donor of judicious use of the donated equipment to provide effective healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
