ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Chapter of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) has concluded plans to set up branches in all the local government council areas of Ogun State.
According to the Chairman, Ogun State PFAN, Comrade Lawal Adeoye Waheed, the exercise was initiated to give all interested active and ex-footballers in the state opportunity to be part of the Union.
Comrade Lawal said, “as part of the ongoing move nationwide to bring all interested ex and current Footballers under the fold of PFAN, to protect their rights and promote their interests, the State Chapter has commenced the creation of units in the local govt council areas to facilitate the registration of its members to identify provider welfare challenges and providing necessary solutions as well as participating in Football governance at the local councils and the state as one of the statutory members of the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF)”.
He continued, “It is an avenue to enable ex-footballers to have a say in the running and affairs of the Nigeria Football Federation after a long battle, struggle, and participation in the round leather game”.
The exercise which has begun with the creation of the Sango Ota Unit of PFAN in the Ado Odo Ota Local government council area of Ogun State will extend to other major cities such as Abeokuta, Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ilaro, Ifo, Ewekoro, Owode, Odeda and others in no distance time.
Adeoye emphasized that the initiative supported by the national body of PFAN shall put to rest all the previous agitation and grudges concerning the unity of ex-Footballers and current Players within the states and at the national level.
Important personalities in football in Ogun State participated in the implementation of the initiative at Ogun State PFAN Secretariat located inside the MKO Abiola Int’l Stadium, Abeokuta including Comrade Austin Popo, National General Secretary, BOT PFAN and Adviser, PFAN, Ogun State, Comrade Lawal Adeoye Waheed, Chairman, Ogun State PFAN, Comrade Shakiru Lawal, Secretary, Ogun State PFAN, Coach Kolawole Taiwo, Patron, Ogun State PFAN, Biodun Odejimi, Vice Chairman, Ogun State PFAN, Coaches Muyiwa Famuyiwa, Biodun Kalejaye, Toyin Ayinla, Akeem Daranijo, Henry Oviawe, and Alhaja Kudirat Odebiyi.
Others are Adetola Owodimilehin, Femi Afolabi, Victor Akpobome, Akinsola Olusiji, Aremu Rasheed, and Wasiu Showemimo.
The meeting was an opportunity to bring in innovations and skills for the best of the union.
