2027: Ogun West Coronet Obas, Baales, Market Leaders Declare Senator Yayi As Consensus Governorship Candidate

ABEOKUTA – A major political realignment occurred in Ogun West Senatorial District on Tuesday, as traditional rulers and market leaders collectively declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while positioning Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi as the undisputed consensus candidate for the Ogun State governorship race in 2027.
This was contained in a series of coordinated communiqués issued after a well-attended press conference organised by the Ogun West Baales’ Forum, Market leaders and traders’ associations, as well as Coronet Obas held in Ilaro-Yewa, Ogun State.
This endorsement followed a purported stakeholders’ announcement of Senator Adeola Yayi as the consensus Ogun State Governorship candidate after a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
At its separate congress on March 24, 2026, the Baales’ Forum cited “prevailing political developments” as justification for its intervention.
The Baales, in a communiqué signed by Baale Oke-Oha, Imeko and Vice-Chairman, Ogun West Baales Forums, Chief Sanni A. Atota, Baale Agbawo, Igan-Okoto and Gen. Sec., Ogun West Baales Forum, Chairman YNLG Council of Baales, Chief Alade Adeniyi, Baale Fagbohun and Chairman, Baales Council, Yewa South LG, Baale Ipile and Chairman, Baales Council, Ado-Odo Otta LG and PRO, Ogun West Baales Forum, Chief Ajayi Abila, Chairman, Ipokia LG Council of Baales, Chief Baale Ajibade Ismaila and Baale Oke-Erinja, Chairman, Ogun West Baales Forum, Chief Olawunmi David declared its “majority consensus” in support of President Tinubu’s second-term bid, aligning with his administration’s reform agenda and infrastructural drive.

The Baales in a communique read on their behalf by Chief Alade Adeniyi, Baale Agbawo, Igan-Okoto, unanimously endorsed Senator Adeola Yayi, as the sole governorship candidate for Ogun West, ostensibly shutting the door on potential intra-regional contestation.
The forum emphasised that its position was independently reached, with prior consultation and consent of traditional rulers, underscoring what it described as a deliberate move to secure “responsible and reliable governance” for future generations.
“It is well known that Baales, as community heads and custodians of grassroots traditional authority, do not engage in partisan politics.
“However, in view of the unfolding developments in the political history of Ogun State, we consider it both necessary and timely to make our position clearly known to the general public, our revered Kabiyesis, and key stakeholders in the corridors of power.
“Accordingly, this communiqué represents the majority consensus of the Ogun West Baales’ Forum.
“The Forum hereby expresses its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in 2027.
“We acknowledge his commitment to national development and infrastructural advancement, and reaffirm our confidence in his leadership and vision for a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.
“That all Baales, speaking in one voice, unequivocally declare, loud and clear, that Distinguished Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, is our sole governorship candidate in Ogun West for the 2027 election.
“Our decision is anchored on the Senator’s proven track record of effective representation and consistent engagement with the people across Ogun West and beyond. His performance in public office has demonstrated capacity, competence, and a deep understanding of governance.”
In the same vein, the Ogun West Market Leaders Forum in a communiqué also declared their backing for both Tinubu and Adeola.
Led by the Babaloja of Yewaland, Chief Adewale Adeshina and the Iyaloja of Yewaland, Chief Mrs. Yemisi Abass, the group credited the duo with tangible improvements in market infrastructure and economic conditions across Ogun West, framing their endorsement as both political and performance-driven.
Describing Adeola as their “sole and preferred candidate,” the traders expressed readiness to mobilise their extensive network in support of his gubernatorial ambition, further strengthening his grassroots appeal.
“After wide consultations with our members and critical stakeholders, and having carefully assessed leadership contributions to the development of market infrastructure and economic empowerment within Ogun West, we hereby issue the following resolutions
“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Solomon Adeola for their remarkable interventions in the construction and reconstruction of markets across Ogun West. These efforts have significantly improved trading environments and restored dignity to local enterprises.
“We declare that Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) remains our sole and preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State. This position is borne out of deep conviction and appreciation of his consistent commitment to development, especially within the areas of market infrastructure.
“This communiqué reflects the collective decision and position of market leaders and traders’ associations across Ogun West.”
Adding similar traditional legitimacy to the endorsement, the Coronet Obas of Ogun West, at a meeting on March 23, also threw their weight behind President Tinubu’s re-election, arguing that continuity in leadership is critical to sustaining ongoing reforms.
The monarchs further unanimously adopted Senator Adeola as their preferred governorship candidate, pledging collective backing for his candidacy.
They anchored their decision on his “demonstrated responsiveness” and visible developmental footprint across the district.
The group said, “In recognition of the evolving political realities and the need for purposeful and responsive leadership, we deem it necessary to collectively state our position. The meeting resolved as follows:
“We, the Coronet Obas of Ogun West, also use this medium to express our firm support for the re-election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are confident that continuity in leadership will further consolidate ongoing reforms and deepen development across all sectors of the nation.
“We hereby unanimously and unequivocally endorse Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (YAYI) as our preferred and sole candidate for the office of Governor of Ogun State in the 2027 general elections. We stand firmly behind his aspiration and pledge our collective support towards ensuring the realisation of a more progressive, prosperous, and united Ogun State under his leadership.
“Our declaration is anchored on his visible commitment to infrastructural development and his demonstrated responsiveness to the needs and aspirations of our communities across Ogun West.”
