Child Advocate, Bunmi Onilude Charges Parents To Be Proactive In Preventing Child Abuse
LAGOS – The 6th Annual Badagry Women Symposium, themed “Women Beyond Borders,” emphasized safeguarding children from molestation and abuse.
The well-attended programme held in Badagry, Lagos state, drew hundreds of women from diverse backgrounds, alongside top government functionaries, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community leaders.
In a paper entitled ” Undertaking and Preventing Sexual Abuse Among Teenage Girls” Pastor Bunmi Onilude, renowned girl child advocate and Founder of Deborah International Outreach urged parents to be vigilant and proactive.
“Teach your children to report suspicious activities, monitor their online presence and foster open communication,” she said.
Urging stakeholders to collaborate in the fight against child abuse, Pastor Onilude said collective efforts can safeguard the future of the young ones.
On her part, Dr. Adedayo Fadugba, former National President of the National Association of Women Journalists, said there can not be guaranteed success without a successor, urging stakeholders to work round the clock to achieve the required success and engage in mentorship of people of like minds.
In his remark, Hon. Segun Onilude, Chairman of Badagry Local Government and event organizer, praised the symposium’s impact. “Empowering women, securing Badagry’s future,” he said.
The symposium featured empowerment packages for hundreds of women and youths with the wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, represented by Mrs. Funsho Ayanronbi, applauding the initiative.
The high point of the event was the presentation of the one million naira star prize won by Mrs. Falola Azeezat Abimbola.
Other participants received prizes, including deep freezers, flat-screen TVs and gas cookers.
