ABEOKUTA- As Nigeria joins her counterparts from around the world to celebrate the yuletide season, governments at all levels have been urged to give special care and attention to the elderly in society during the yuletide season.
This call was made known by a group, Jofunmi Loving Heart Foundation during her 2024 Love in Action Christmas outreach to celebrate 150 aged and elderly in the otere – Ikereku community in Odeda local government area of Ogun state so they can feel loved and valued during Christmas.
Speaking to newsmen, the group’s Project Coordinator, Olusola Ojo said the group observed that the elderly are often forgotten during Christmas; despite serving their fatherland during their prime; hence the need for the gesture with a call for the government to support them at all times.
Speaker after speaker including the community head called for more such gestures and initiatives from the government and well-spirited individuals.
They also want the government to do more for rural communities.
