ABUJA – Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has warned the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that they must be ready to settle the remainder of his contract if they decide to relieve him of his duties.
Chelle’s comments come amid rumours of his possible dismissal following Nigeria’s early exit from the 2024 CHAN tournament, where the home-based Eagles lost their opening two matches to Senegal and Sudan, crashing out in the group stage.
The poor run has sparked debates among fans and pundits about whether Chelle is the right man to lead the three-time African champions into the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which kick off in less than two weeks.
“I have heard a lot of stories about them wanting to sack me and replace me with someone else. I have heard about that,” Chelle told journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
“I know, quite well, that I can be fired after one match. This is life in football, but if they decide to do that, they must be prepared to pay up the remainder of my contract.”
