Ogun 2027: Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello’s Billboards In Abeokuta Spark Speculation Of Return To Politics

ABEOKUTA – The billboards bearing the image of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s daughter, Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, have appeared in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital sparking speculation about her potential return to politics 14 years after her political oblivion.

Iyabo, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District between 2007 and 2011 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) relocated to USA after losing her re-election in 2011 to Senator Gbenga Obadara of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now APC.

During her break from politics, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello pursued her Ph.D., which earned her the title of professor.

But her billboard posters spread across Abeokuta metropolis has wowed many political observers who are wondering if she is joining the governorship fray with the subtlety inscription on the billboards.

The Encounter News reports that the awareness billboards with the inscription, “In Ogun state, we know ourselves. Senator Professor Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, Omo wa ni, Eniyan wa ni, Ara wa ni” was seen at Abiola way, Quarry road and Onikolobo.

Some political observers opined that she might be gunning for the governorship seat in Ogun state under the newly formed coalition, African Democratic Congress (ADC), others believed she is returning to the depleted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while another political block argued that she is coming back to return to the senate in 2027.

The mother of one is a politician, veterinarian, epidemiologist, and academic.
