Ogun Central: APC Chieftain, Talabi Declares Senate Ambition, Promises Economic Growth, Youth Empowerment
ABEOKUTA – The General Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the United States, Hon. Olamide Davies Talabi, has declared that Nigeria and Ogun State need a compassionate, God-fearing leader who listens to the people and takes decisive action to address the current economic challenges.
Talabi, a former Ambassador for Culture and Tourism, made the declaration during a press conference in Abeokuta on Friday while announcing her intention to contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat under the APC.
She said the state requires a leader who understands its realities, has global exposure, and possesses strong connections with international and local investors capable of driving economic development.
According to her, her professional background as an accountant, combined with her exposure to political and economic systems in the United States, has equipped her with the knowledge and experience needed to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ogun State and Nigeria.
Talabi explained that her decision to contest under the APC was influenced by the party’s openness to individuals with progressive ideas and its recognition of talent and leadership capacity.
She noted that the party provides a platform for individuals committed to national development without intimidation, adding that she believes in its vision for Nigeria’s growth.
The senatorial aspirant promised to prioritize women empowerment if elected, noting that empowering women economically would help reduce domestic violence and ease financial pressures on families.
She added that her years of living and working abroad, including serving three terms as a councillor in the United States, have enabled her to build valuable international connections that could attract investments, create jobs, and boost the state’s economy.
Talabi also pledged to focus on improving access to basic amenities such as electricity and potable water while collaborating with farmers to establish food banks across the six local government areas of Ogun Central to enhance food security.
She assured that she would represent the interests of her constituents effectively at the Senate, emphasizing that her voice would reflect the needs and aspirations of the people.
The APC chieftain further advocated for increased female representation in governance, supporting at least 30 percent women participation in the Senate.
She also highlighted plans to empower youths through job creation and training in artificial intelligence and technology, aimed at preparing them for future economic opportunities.
Talabi reaffirmed her commitment to using her experience, global exposure, and professional expertise to attract development, strengthen the economy, and improve the overall well-being of the people of Ogun State and Nigeria.
I’ve been an APC member for many years, actually, right now, I’m the General Secretary of APC USA chapter. To be the General Secretary, you are the brain of the organization. So APC, I chose APC because it’s a platform that anybody can come up without feeling intimidated, and they will support you once they know that you have something to deliver. And that goes from the our President , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is person that recognizes talent. He looks at you. He sees what you can bring to the table. He doesn’t care where you are from, who you know or what you know, as long as you have the interest of the people at heart, and as long as you’re smart, that is why I picked APC.
“I look at things that is going on in this place, and the basic things that should not be a problem is a problem. One of the thing is food. Another one is electricity, water. So let’s look at the food. For instance, we have something in the US, it is called food banks. I am part of the process and I send a lot of things back home, but again, does it get to the right hand? sometimes, maybe not. So if I become the Ogun central Senate Senator, and we have food banks in all the six local governments, we will work with our farmers, empower them with agric fertilizers and things they need to do more food.
“So when we get there, we make sure that the food banks will be there. So the hungry ones will benefit from that. Nobody should go to bed hungry.”
