Wasiu Isiaka Organizes Memorial Lecture For Parents, Prays For Governor Abiodun’s Senatorial Ambition
ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, has organised a special Ramadan prayer and Iftar lecture in honour of his late parents, Prince Tijani Ade Isiaka and Alhaja Kuburat Isiaka.
The event, held last week in Imeko-Afon, also featured prayers for the continued success of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his senatorial ambition come 2027.
In his welcome address, Isiaka described the memorial lecture as both timely and necessary, particularly in light of the current socio-political realities in the country.
He explained that the gathering was not only to honour the memory of his parents but also to seek divine guidance for effective governance in the state.
He stressed the importance of integrating spiritual and moral values into leadership, noting that such principles could help address persistent societal challenges and foster unity within communities.
Delivering the Ramadan lecture, respected Islamic scholar Shuaeb Adegbite called on political office holders to embrace prophetic teachings as a foundation for governance.
He emphasized that politics, when guided by ethical and spiritual values, can serve as a powerful tool for promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development.
Adegbite noted that the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) highlight key leadership qualities such as accountability, compassion, and fairness—values he said are often lacking in contemporary political systems.
According to him, leaders who embody these virtues are better positioned to serve the interests of the people above personal or partisan considerations.
He further warned that meaningful development cannot thrive in environments characterized by corruption, division, and self-interest.
Instead, he urged political leaders to adopt value-based approaches that prioritize transparency, inclusiveness, and service to the people.
The cleric also underscored the importance of inclusive governance, stating that effective leadership requires listening to all segments of society, particularly marginalized groups.
He added that policies rooted in broad consultation are more likely to deliver sustainable development outcomes.
Addressing young people, Adegbite encouraged active participation in politics, urging them to engage with integrity and a strong sense of purpose.
He cautioned against being swayed by divisive rhetoric or short-term incentives, advising them to become agents of positive change guided by moral principles.
In addition, he called on religious institutions to play a more active role in shaping political consciousness, noting that faith-based organizations can help promote ethical leadership and civic responsibility among citizens.
Adegbite also advocated stronger collaboration between government, religious bodies, and traditional institutions, stating that such partnerships are essential for building trust, strengthening governance, and ensuring inclusive and sustainable development.
