ABEOKUTA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ajilete Ward, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, has suspended a former Liaison Officer to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Prince Akeem Obanla, over alleged activities deemed detrimental to the unity, discipline, and integrity of the party.
The suspension was contained in a statement signed by the Ward Chairman, Akeem Adeleye; Vice Chairman, Iroko Kehinde; Secretary, Ola Arogunyo; and 23 other executive members on Sunday.
According to the statement, which was made available to journalists on Monday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Obanla and his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Obanla, were accused of engaging in anti-party activities.
These allegedly included open sympathy and support for opposition political interests during recent political events held outside the state.
The ward executives stated that the actions of the couple constituted a persistent violation of party discipline, loyalty, and ethical standards.
They noted that the decision to suspend Obanla followed a pattern of conduct considered inimical to the interests of the party.
The statement further alleged that the duo had repeatedly engaged in public conduct unbecoming of APC members.
Particular concern was expressed over Mrs. Obanla’s alleged sustained online attacks against the leadership of the party and the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
These attacks were said to include social media posts, videos, and statements containing disparaging and misleading remarks about the Ogun State government and its programmes.
“It is particularly concerning that these actions continue despite Akeem Obanla having benefited from the party and the present administration, having served as the Governor’s Liaison Officer for Yewa South Local Government during the first term of the current administration.
“Instead of upholding the values and loyalty expected of a party member, he and his wife have chosen a path that undermines party unity and cohesion.”
The party also cited the couple’s alleged involvement in anti-party activities, including their purported sympathy and support for opposition political interests during recent political events.
Such conduct, the statement noted, runs contrary to the principles and constitution of the APC and cannot be condoned.
Additionally, the ward executives accused Mrs. Obanla of disseminating misleading claims about key government initiatives, including the state’s electric mobility programme and the acquisition of aircraft for state operations.
These actions were described as deliberate attempts to misinform the public and discredit the achievements of the APC-led administration in Ogun State.
“The conduct of Prince Akeem Obanla and Mrs. Elizabeth Obanla therefore constitutes a breach of the party’s constitution, code of conduct, and the expected discipline of APC members,” the statement added.
“In view of these developments, the APC, Ajilete Ward, Yewa South Local Government Area, has resolved to suspend Prince Akeem Obanla from the party with immediate effect, pending further review and necessary action by the appropriate organs of the party.
“The party reiterates its commitment to discipline, loyalty, and respect for leadership as indispensable values required to sustain the unity, growth, and continued success of the All Progressives Congress,” the statement concluded.
