ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has confirmed the death of two persons, while four others sustained injuries in an auto crash along the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said in a statement yesterday that a Hanvan truck with registration number LAR 716 XB and a white Howo truck without a registration number were involved in the crash.
According to him, six male occupants were involved in the accident.
He attributed the crash to excessive speed by the driver of the Howo truck, who rammed head-on into the Hanvan truck.
Akinbiyi explained that the injured victims were rescued by a good Samaritan and taken to an undisclosed hospital, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Idera Hospital morgue in Sagamu.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old vegetable hawker, identified simply as Ademidun, narrowly escaped death after being swept away by floodwaters during a torrential downpour in the Ilugun-Itoko area of Ajangboun, Odeda Local Council of Ogun State.
The teenager reportedly fell into a drainage channel on Sunday while attempting to cross to the other side of the road during the rainfall.
Eyewitnesses immediately raised the alarm, triggering a massive search by residents for the missing boy.
Community leaders, including the Baale and his chiefs, mobilised rescue efforts, which eventually led to his discovery after the rainfall subsided. Ademidun was found clinging to a tree in a nearby canal.
Sources said the boy sustained facial injuries and was bleeding when he was rescued, although the extent of the injuries could not be immediately ascertained.
He is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.
