Ogun Govt, Senator Yayi Mourn Veteran Nollywood Actor, Taiwo Hassan Ogogo

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, have expressed grief over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker, Alhaji Taiwo Babatunde Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

Ogogo, an Ilaro-born thespian, reportedly died after an illness, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in Nigeria’s creative and entertainment industry.

The state government, through the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, described the actor’s death as a monumental loss to Ogun State, the Nigerian creative industry and the country at large.

Akinmade said Hassan was “not merely an accomplished actor” but a shining light whose talent, discipline and commitment helped elevate Nigerian culture and project the richness of Yoruba heritage to audiences within and outside the country.

According to him, Ogogo distinguished himself throughout his career through exceptional artistry, humility, candour, dignity and respect for others, earning the admiration of colleagues, fans and generations of Nigerians.

The government noted that as a son of Ilaro, Ogogo remained a proud ambassador of his roots, contributing through theatre, film and television to the preservation and promotion of Nigeria’s cultural heritage, particularly the Yoruba language, traditions and values.

It said his death had created a painful void that would be felt by his family, the people of Ilaro and Ogun State, the Nigerian artistic community and his numerous admirers across the world.

The government extended its condolences to the late actor’s family, friends, colleagues in the creative industry, the people of Ilaro and his fans, while praying to God to grant his soul eternal rest and give the bereaved family the strength to bear the loss.

Similarly, Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the National Assembly, described Ogogo’s death as a great loss to his family, Ogun State, Nigeria and the creative industry.

In a condolence message to the deceased’s family, Adeola expressed sadness over the death of the actor, whom he described as a brother who believed in and worked assiduously for his cause and that of the people.

“I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people. I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances,” Adeola said.

The APC governorship candidate also commended Ogogo’s contribution to society through filmmaking and positive advocacy, saying his role in the drive for a better society would remain memorable.

Adeola said the late actor had left behind a legacy worthy of emulation and assured the immediate family of his continued support during their period of grief.

He added that the good deeds and contributions of the deceased to society would not be forgotten.

Both the Ogun State Government and Senator Adeola prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the late thespian and for fortitude for his family to bear the irreparable loss.
