Gov. Abiodun Ex-Chief of Staff, Taiwo Unveils Development Agenda For Yewa South/Ipokia, Pledges Education, Youth Empowerment

ABEOKUTA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, has unveiled an agenda focused on education, youth development, women’s empowerment and strategic infrastructure, pledging to pursue practical interventions that will improve the lives of constituents if elected in 2027.

Taiwo, a former Chief of Staff to the Ogun State Governor, disclosed this during an interview on a popular radio programme in Abeokuta.

He said his legislative agenda would build on the educational and empowerment initiatives he had already commenced, while expanding opportunities for young people, market women and other vulnerable groups across Yewa South and Ipokia.

According to him, education would remain a major component of his representation, with plans to sustain his intervention programme covering payment of General Certificate of Education (GCE) examination fees, provision of school uniforms, school bags and learning materials for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“I will sustain and expand my educational support, market women’s empowerment and youth development initiatives when elected. My objective is to provide effective representation that produces practical and measurable improvements in the lives of our people,” he said.

Taiwo also promised to expand his empowerment programmes for market women and young people, with emphasis on skills development, enterprise support and access to economic opportunities.

He said his approach to representation would go beyond political patronage, stressing the need for programmes capable of equipping constituents with the skills and resources required to become economically self-reliant.

Taiwo also identified the proposed development of Tongeji Island as an important area of focus, promising to use the platform of the National Assembly to attract Federal Government attention and intervention to the project.

He said the development of the island could unlock significant economic opportunities for the people of Yewa South and Ipokia, pledging to support every legitimate effort aimed at securing the necessary government backing.

According to him, effective representation must involve aggressive advocacy for projects and policies capable of transforming the economic fortunes of the constituency.

The APC candidate expressed confidence that the party would retain the support of voters in the constituency and across Ogun State in the 2027 elections.

He attributed the expected support to what he described as the achievements and interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

“With the interventions and achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, alongside my modest contributions to the development of our constituency, I am confident that our people will vote massively for me and overwhelmingly for the APC,” he said.

Taiwo also expressed confidence that Adeola would defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, in the 2027 election, predicting victory for the APC across the state’s 20 local government areas.

Commenting on the controversy surrounding suspended APC chieftain Abayomi Hunye’s governorship ambition, Taiwo described Hunye’s decision to obtain the party’s nomination form as a political negotiation strategy rather than a serious challenge to Adeola’s emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.

He said Adeola emerged following extensive consultations involving the APC leadership, former governors and other major stakeholders in the state.

“Hunye has his distinctive way of playing politics. In my view, he obtained the nomination form as part of a strategy to negotiate for a political position,” Taiwo said.

He maintained that party members were expected to respect the principle of party supremacy and decisions reached through the appropriate structures.

Taiwo also dismissed claims that the people of Ipokia had collectively endorsed Hunye’s governorship aspiration, saying such a position did not reflect the collective view of the people.

He further said Hunye’s current political activities appeared aimed at repositioning himself within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Taiwo, however, expressed confidence that the disagreement would eventually be resolved amicably.
