ABEOKUTA – Convener of The Alternative Movement, a pan-Nigerian movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has appealed to non-indigenes residents in Ogun State to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Showunmi made the appeal while addressing members of the Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State, Egba Zone, which comprises groups including the Igbo Association, Igede Community, Tiv/Benue people, Calabar Association, Arewa Association and Igala community.

The engagement forms part of mobilization activities embarked upon by The Alternative Movement for Tinubu’s re-election.

Showunmi, who described the non-indigene community as dependable, said he had come to seek their support because of their reliability and past relationship with him.

He also appealed to the group to mobilise its members across the state for Tinubu, urging them to turn out in large numbers during the 2027 election.

He also called for massive mobilisation across Ogun State, particularly in Ogun Central, Ogun West and Ogun East, in support of Tinubu.

According to him, the 2027 election should be used to demonstrate the strength of the votes available to the President in the South.

Showunmi also appealed to members of the Igbo community to support Tinubu, while expressing his position that political support should be reciprocal and that Nigerians from different regions should have opportunities to produce the country’s president.

He said supporting Tinubu in 2027 should not be interpreted as closing the door against an Igbo presidency in the future.

His words “You have never failed me. I came to beg you because I know you are extremely reliable.

“I have come to beg you,” stressing that he was making the appeal because he considered the group dependable and trustworthy.

“In the same way that we are appealing to you today to support Bola Tinubu, by Almighty God, Chineke, and the Lord, we will work very hard until we carry an Igbo man and put him in that top seat. Nothing will happen,” he said.

Earlier, Chairman of the Non-Indigene Association of Ogun State, Egba Zone, Hon. Francis Nwanze, said the association had resolved to support Tinubu’s re-election.

A representative of the Igede Community also pledged that non-indigenes would participate actively in campaigns and rallies in support of the President.

“We are working for Tinubu’s re-election. When it is time for rallies, you will see non-indigenes in their large numbers to support and campaign for President Tinubu,” the representative said.

The association also called for greater inclusion of non-indigenes in government, including appointments into positions such as Special Assistants.

In the same vein, Otunba Showunmi visited Egba Tile-Toko, Hunters Association where he also sought their support for President Tinubu reelection.
