ABEOKUTA – The Speaker, Ogun state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo says he remained optimistic of victory ahead of the scheduled election rerun.
It would be recalled that INEC announced cancellation of results in unit 04 of Ifo ward 01 as a result of over-voting.
THE ENCOUNTER NEWS reports that, Oluomo was leading with 969 votes ahead of his PDP opponent before the cancellation of the polling unit result.
However, a total numbers of accredited voters expected at the rerun election is 1,848.
A statement released by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, AbdulGhaffar Adeleye on Monday in Abeokuta, pointed out that “the Speaker votes at unit 19, ward three, while the election was cancelled at unit four, ward one. The unit is one of the three units at the voting centre of the Ogun State Chairman of the people’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele.
The statement reads further “The speaker recorded massive votes from his constituents and is already leading with a total of 969 votes across the Constituency”
“Mr. Speaker is comfortably leading and is not in anyway perturbed by the inconclusiveness of the election”
“He played his usual role in church yesterday and is in office this morning” it concluded.
Rt. Hon. Oluomo urged his followers and well-wishers to be calm and continue to be prayerful for it is a temporary setback to the eventual victory.
As at time of filing this report, INEC is yet to confirm on the new date for the scheduled rerun election.
