ABEOKUTA – The fed Evento event centre was filled to the brim on Saturday, July 12, 2025 as popular Egba big boy, Sunday Adeoye Oyebefun popularly known as “Sunday Apata” celebrated his 50th birthday anniversary and coronation anniversary as Ekerin of Kemta Oloko and Gbadegesin of Iporoland, in Egba Alake, Abeokuta.
Sunday Apata, a businessman, travel and tour agent, and exporter of plank wood to the United Kingdom and Caribbean countries clocked 50 on March 23, 2025.
On June 20, 2025, the traditional head of Iporo land and Apena of Egbaland, Chief Suarau Alani Bankole under the authority of Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo conferred the chieftaincy title of Gbadegesin of Iporo land on Sunday Apata for his bravery, support for community development, and empowerment of the less privileged in the community.
Chief Bankole, who is the father of the former speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole said Sunday Apata exemplified humility and embodiment of hardwork.
On July 10, 2025, the traditional ruler of Kemta Oloko, Chief Azeez conferred on Sunday Adeoye Oyebefun the Ekerin Kemta Oloko, a chieftaincy title given to solidify Sunday Apata’s commitment to the Kemta community.
As a way of thanking God and appreciate his two communities for bestowing on him the chieftaincy titles, Sunday Apata gathered friends, community leaders, traditional rulers, government functionaries, captains of industry to celebrate the new milestones in his life and career.
The colourful 3-in-1 celebration was sparked with glitz as popular Fuji musician, the king of street vibes, Oba Alashakasha, Abass Akande Obesere, electrified the event hall with undiluted Tungba lyrics and unending Alujo.
In his remarks, Chief Oyebefun expressed deep gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him and pledged his unwavering commitment to the development and peace of his community.
Speaking with journalists, Chief Sunday Oyebefun said “What is expected of me with this new titles is to ensure that my community continues to develop at all times, to make sure that everybody is fine, and to bring peace to the community,” he said.
The newly installed chief also emphasized the critical role traditional institutions play in grassroots development, urging the government to work more closely with community leaders.
