ABEOKUTA – The lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has described Governor Dapo Abiodun as a visionary leader whose policies and infrastructure investments have expanded the economic architecture of Ogun State and positioned the state for long-term growth.
Isiaka spoke over the weekend while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, where he confirmed his interest to contest the governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2027.
The federal lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, said his experience as a three-time governorship candidate and long-standing participant in Ogun State politics has given him a clear perspective on leadership, sacrifice, and outcomes.
According to him, events surrounding the 2019 governorship election, including decisions taken by political actors within Ogun West, ultimately paved the way for the emergence of Governor Abiodun, whose administration has delivered measurable economic progress.
He noted that the current administration’s execution of large-scale infrastructure projects represents a turning point in the state’s economic direction. Isiaka cited the Gateway International Airport, the Olokola Deep Sea Port, and extensive road infrastructure across the state as defining investments with enduring value.
It is on this foundation that he said he intends to build on these achievements and extend the frontiers of development set by the Abiodun administration.
Reflecting on his 2019 governorship bid under the African Democratic Congress, Isiaka recalled understandings reached among leaders from Ogun West on collective support for the zone’s aspiration.
He said subsequent actions by political associates altered that path, leading to distorted narratives around his role in the zone’s inability to produce a governor.
He specifically referenced his engagement with the Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, noting that the consensus reached at the time were later overtaken by political realities.
Isiaka said he chose restraint and stability over public confrontation, guided by a desire to keep the polity calm.
“I have walked this political road for a long time, and I understand how decisions taken at critical moments shape history. When you look at where Ogun State stands today, you see that the outcome of that period has translated into growth, stability, and expanded opportunity for our people.
“What we are witnessing in Ogun State is an economic realignment driven by assets with lasting relevance. These projects expand access, deepen competitiveness, and strengthen our state’s standing within the national economy.
“I have heard many distorted narratives, and I have lived with them. History has a way of settling the facts. What matters today is the progress Ogun State has recorded and the direction it is headed.”
“Governor Abiodun has expanded the economic horizon of Ogun State. From infrastructure to investment climate, our state has moved forward. As someone deeply invested in the future of Ogun, I acknowledge results when I see them.” He stated.
The lawmaker also spoke on his intention to seek the governorship ticket in 2027, saying the ambition comes from experience, grassroots engagement, and a conviction that Ogun West interests deserve structured representation within the democratic process.
He urged traditional rulers and political leaders in the zone to allow open participation, stressing that internal consensus should emerge through dialogue rather than exclusion, and emphasised that governance should always be assessed by its impact on daily life, economic opportunity, and social stability.
