LAGOS – The Coalition of Driving Schools Operators in Nigeria, in a press release issued on Sunday, distanced its members from recent delays in the issuance of new driver’s licenses, which according to the release is causing frustration and inconvenience for new drivers.
The release which was signed by Mallam Idris Buhari, National Coordinator of the Coalition stated; “Driving schools are not responsible for the current delays in processing driver’s licenses. The delays are due to hitches in the FRSC Drivers license portal.”
Adding that the process for obtaining a new driver’s license involves visiting a driving school for training and obtaining a General Certificate of Driver’s Education, which takes 26 days. “Applicants must pass the CBT test with at least 60% before proceeding to the VIO Competent test. After passing the VIO test, applicants make payment for the prescribed Drivers license fee, and then visit the FRSC desk for capturing and receive a temporary driver’s license.”
Mallam Buhari on behalf of the Coalition stressed further that the primary issues contributing to the delays are due to FRSC technology systems hitches, and the management is working tirelessly to resolve the issue, saying, “the hitches have affected some graduated certificates, and applicants were unable to make payment with the certificates. However, the FRSC programmer has promised to validate such certificates to enable applicants to make payment.”
The Coalition according to the release, appreciates the patience and understanding of Nigerians waiting to process their driver’s licenses, stressing that, “it is in our mutual interest that the portal issue is resolved as soon as possible. If the delay continues, we humbly advise the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps to consider changing the programmer for a more competent hand, as the delay is becoming unbearable.”
Mallam Buhari emphasized that driving school operators remain committed and determined to providing quality driver’s education, “we will continue to work closely with FRSC to bring sanity to our roads. This press release aims to clarify the insinuations by some quarters that driving school operators are the cause of the delay in driver’s license production.”
