Ex-Convict Bags 7 Years Jail Term For Stealing Car Battery, Other Valuables In Ogun

ABEOKUTA Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced one Samod Adedeji to seven years, six months imprisonment with hard labor, for being in possession of stolen 12volts Arnold 100ah vehicle battery and other valuable items.
Samod pleaded guilty to the three-counts charge of breaking and entering, also in possession of stolen items Around Bankole avenue Oluwo, Abeokuta.
The Magistrate, S. Arogundade, said that all the evidences presented in court by the prosecutor, Olayiwola Oluwasegun was proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused was guilty of the offense as charged.
Mr. Arogundade, however, sentenced Samod Adedeji to seven years and Six months in prison with hard labour and without option of fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 12 at about 1:00 a.m., at Oluwo area in Abeokuta.
He said that the defendant, who is an ex-convict, was found in possession of 12volts Arnold 100ah battery, Air conditioner, and Indian hemp which he could not give a satisfactory account of the items.
He said that Samod made a confessional statement that he stole the 12volts Arnod 100ah battery and other items from different people.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant stole the 12volts Arnold vehicle battery from the shop of the owner, while he pretended to buy goods from them.
“Samod was apprehended by some Adigbe Police operatives, when they saw him with bag and accosted him At Bankole Lawrence Avenue, Oluwo Adigbe. but upon questioning, he could not give account of the items in his possession, which lead to his arrest,” He said.
The prosecutor, however, said that the offence contravened sections 516 and 430 and 383(1) of the criminal code laws of Ogun 2006.
