Ogun Deputy Governor Escapes Attack During Students Protest In Abeokuta

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele on Wednesday afternoon escaped being attacked by some aggrieved students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic,  Abeokuta.

Recall that the Polytechnic students on Monday protested against non release of their HND final year results which denied them from being mobilized for the one year compulsory NYSC service and increment of school fees by the school management.

The Polytechnic management had immediately shutdown the school indefinitely to avert destruction of properties.

Not satisfied enough, the angry students took to their protest to the streets of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

But on Wednesday, the Deputy Governor’s convoy was on its way to 35 Artillery Brigade Alabama, Abeokuta, Ogun State to represent the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, at the reception marking the year 2025, Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, when her convoy met the protesting students.

The irate MAPOLY students, armed with placards and chanting Aluta choruses and passed through the Oke-Ilewo axis of Abeokuta.

Upon sighting the Deputy Governor’s convoy, they became more restive and rushed to attack her convoy with intention of demobilizing it, despite her security operatives as well as other police officers on grounds persuasion to stay calm and allow the convoy pass.

The development informed the Deputy Governor’s Convoy’s decision to make an immediate detour infront of the popular Iwe-Irohin House to her lodge for the protesting students to pass peacefully before she left for the function she was slated to attend.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy,  Kayode Akinmade said, while melee last, there was obstruction of vehicular movement, while some of the Deputy Governor’s security vehicle was damaged and her Security operatives, were also hurt in the process of maintaining law and order contrary to the news making rounds in the press.

Speaking to journalists, the Ogun State Chairman, National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS), Comrade Adeyanju Francis accused the convoy of Deputy Governor of the state, Noimot Salako-Oyedele of shooting at them during a protest.

According the protesters, while marching towards the NNPC area in Abeokuta, they encountered the Deputy governor’s convoy at the OPIC roundabout.

The students said, they attempted to approach the deputy governor to express their grievances but were met with sporadic gunfire from her security detail.
