ABEOKUTA – In a surprising turn of events, a foremost grassroots politician and Youth mobilizer, Hon. Dipo Ogunyemi, popularly known as Champion, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the keenly contested Chairmanship race in Abeokuta North Local Government.
Ogunyemi, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced his entry into the race last night.
His campaign posters have flooded popular social media platforms, WhatsApp and Facebook, sending ripples through the political landscape of Abeokuta North.
According to him “The role of Chairman is not just a political position; it is a solemn duty to serve and uplift the local government.
He noted that his vision for Abeokuta North encompasses innovative solutions to long-standing challenges and a promise to harness untapped opportunities for growth.
Political analysts note that Ogunyemi’s entrance into the race significantly alters the political dynamics of the local government. His track record in local government administration is expected to be a major advantage.
His appeal for support has been met with enthusiasm from various quarters.
Hon. Ogunyemi brings over a decade of hands-on experience in grassroots politics and governance to the table.
His political journey began as a Councilor for Ago-Oko Ward from 2012 to 2015, where he focused on community development and youth empowerment. He later served as Personal Assistant to Senator Lanre Tejuoso during the 8th Senate, gaining valuable experience in national-level politics and constituency service.
Ogunyemi’s most recent role as Supervisor for Works & WES in Abeokuta North Local Government from 2020 to 2021 showcased his ability to drive tangible improvements in infrastructure and public services.
Adding to his credentials, Ogunyemi served as the Local Government Party Agent for the 2023 Gubernatorial and State Assembly Elections. Under his strategic leadership, his party secured a decisive victory in Abeokuta North with a margin of over 2,000 votes, demonstrating his skill in grassroots mobilization and electoral strategy.
