ABEOKUTA – Lafarge Africa, ValueJet Nigeria, and the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority (OORBDA) have thrown their weight behind the 2025 SWAN Security Cup, boosting the glamour of the annual inter-agency football competition in Ogun State.
Lafarge says it is ready to kit all the four semi-finalists for the final and 3rd place match.
The Ogun SWAN Security Cup is an annual football competition that brings together various security and para-military agencies in the state to foster unity, physical fitness, and camaraderie through sports.
The Head of Corporate Communications, Lafarge Africa Plc, Ginikanwa Frank-Durugbor, said the sponsorship was part of the company’s support for the security agencies.
Ginikanwa stated that the company remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace, youth development, and community engagement in its host state.
“We recognise the critical role that security agencies play in maintaining peace and order in Ogun State. Supporting the SWAN Security Cup is our way of encouraging the officers, promoting healthy rivalry, and contributing to a successful sporting event that benefits the entire community.”
Ginikanwa said Lafarge, as a solution driven company, is actively participating in the urbanization and economic growth of Nigeria, the largest economy in Africa.
According to her, Lafarge Africa has the widest footprint in Nigeria with cement operations in the South West, Ewekoro, and Sagamu in Ogun State, hence supporting any innovation that will sustain peaceful coexistence of the people and tranquility in the state through sports remain top priority of the company.
In the same vein, rising airline company ValueJet Nigeria, in its usual practice, donated the prize money for the finalists.
ValueJet Nigeria, led by CEO Hon. Kunle Soname, donated prize money for the finalists, continuing its tradition of supporting grassroots sports.
Soname noted that, “Sports have the power to unite people and inspire greatness. Supporting the SWAN Security Cup aligns with our vision to promote youth engagement and celebrate the dedication of our security operatives.”
Also lending his support, the OORBDA CEO Dr. Adedeji Ashiru promised contributions of bottled water, palm oil, and other local produce for the finals, affirming the agency’s commitment to wellness and unity among security operatives.
Ashiru commended SWAN for fostering unity among security operatives in Ogun state.
He maintained that there can never be peaceful coexistence without mental alertness of the security operatives.
He, however, assured of the agency’s robust support at the next edition.
Chairman of Ogun SWAN, Comrade Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji, expressed gratitude to the sponsors, noting that their support highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in driving community development through sports.
