LAGOS state police command has busted a syndicate repackaging expired drugs and arrested two.
The police arrested two men, Augustine Egemoye and Innocent Eremosele, involved in the syndicate on Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects were apprehended while in a bus by a patrol team from the Okokomaiko Division.
“At about 5:40 pm yesterday, a patrol team from Okokomaiko Division stopped and searched a Volkswagen LT bus at Afromedia,” Hundeyin said in a statement, on Sunday,
The Lagos PPRO said the officers uncovered 70 cartons of ‘Feed Fine Cyproheptadine Caplets 4g,’ all with an expiry date of 2016, in the bus.
The suspects, Egemoye, aged 60, and Eremosele, aged 35, confessed they were taking the expired drugs to somebody in Alaba who would change the expiry dates, Hundeyin said.
The PPRO said that the pattern of the suspects was to repackage the drugs with newly fabricated expiry dates and transport them to Port-Harcourt where they would be sold.
The police command said that both the suspects, drugs and the vehicle are in custody.
“Efforts are on to arrest the owner of the drugs, the individual altering expiry dates and other indicted persons,” Hundeyin added.
