Landlord’s Son Allegedly Kills Nursing mother, injures two over rent dispute

AKURE – Operatives of the Nigeria Police, Ondo State Command, have arrested a 27-year-old man, Kazeem Awe, for allegedly killing a nursing mother in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Council of the state.

Awe, said to be the son of the landlord of the victim, allegedly attacked the deceased, Motunrayo Adeleye, with a cutlass following a dispute over unpaid rent at their residence in the Alaba area of the community.

During the incident, the suspect also allegedly injured the deceased’s husband, Mathew Adeleye, and their daughter.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 5:00 a.m. in the Ore Alaba area, near a popular school, throwing the neighbourhood into confusion as residents fled for safety.

Sources said the violence stemmed from a disagreement over house rent between the suspect and the deceased’s husband, who was a tenant in a building owned by the suspect’s father.

Speaking from his hospital bed, the husband said the crisis began after tenants were issued quit notices, even though their rent was not due.

“I had informed friends to help us search for another apartment, and we eventually secured one. We were preparing to move out that same Thursday the incident occurred,” he said.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, said the victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Ore, where the woman was confirmed dead.

He added that the injured victims are receiving treatment, while the deceased has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
