National Sports Festival Gets Nov. 27 Date, As MOC Storms Ogun for Facilities Inspection
ABEOKUTA – Exactly one year to the commencement of the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) on Monday stormed Ogun State for the facilities inspection.
The next NSF taking place in Ogun State will begin with the opening ceremony on November 27, 2024.
The MOC Secretary, Mrs Thecla Opara led a five-man team on an inspection tour to the hosting state on Monday.
The team will inspect all the facilities identified for the competition during its three-day visit to the State.
The committee’s first point of call on Monday was Remo Stars Sport Complex in Ikenne, a private sporting facility owned by Kunle Soname, the Chairman of Remo Stars Football Club.
The team also visited the NYSC camp stadium in Sagamu for inspection.
Speaking to newsmen in Ikenne, Dr Kweku Tandoh, the Executive Secretary of LOC, said eight venues have been identified for the 2024 NSF.
According to him, there would be 27 compulsory and five optional sports for the festival.
Tandoh said the LOC subcommittee on venues and facilities had already submitted report to the state government on the required upgrade and renovation for all the identified venues.
“I won’t say we have challenges, I will say we have things that we need to do. We have identified our venues. We have identified facilities, we have affixed the sports to venue. We received a list of 27 compulsory sports from Abuja and we have identified venues for each of them.
“All that we need to begin to do now is to renovate those venues. All that need to be done have been identified and the venues and facilities subcommittee has submitted everything to the State government.
“I am happy to say that a budget has been put together by the State government towards hosting of the games.”
He expressed the state government’s commitment to put up a beautiful NSF next year.
He noted that there would be collaboration between the government and the private sector towards the successful hosting.
