ABEOKUTA – The Chairman, Ogun State Community Development Council (CDC), Akogun Lucien Taiwo has urged community leaders at all levels in the state, particularly the youth wing to shun violent protest and promote peace for a brighter future.
In a press release by the State Secretary Comrade Usman Olamilekan on Thursday in Abeokuta and made available to newsmen, the CDC Chairman said the consequence of the protest is always devastating, hence there was need for the youths to thread carefully.
He said, the CDC who are closer to the people are the grassroots, knows where the show pinches, noting that nothing is good more than peaceful coexistence.
While acknowledging the right to protest of the citizens, Usman urged the youths to embrace peaceful protest devoid of violence and destruction of properties.
He said “As we navigate the complexities of our community’s growth and development, it’s essential to address the increasing trend of violent protests. We must recognize the devastating consequences of violence on our collective well-being and progress. We are the closest to the people at the grassroots. Let’s promote peace”.
According to him, “The Cost of Violence, destruction of property and infrastructure, harm to innocent lives and livelihoods is always a threat to our unity”.
He added “The power of Peaceful Protest is key. We must amplifies our message without causing harm, Fosters inclusive and respectful dialogue, inspires positive transformation and growth”.
Usman therefore, stated “We urge you to join us in promoting peaceful protest methods, such as:- Community forums and town hall meetings, petitions and letter-writing campaigns, social media awareness, and education. Together, we can create a culture of nonviolent expression, driving progress, and uplifting our community”.
