Neuro Psychiatric Hospital Aro Abeokuta, Responds To Student Suspension Controversy

ABEOKUTA – In a notable turn of events at the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital situated in Aro, Abeokuta, the institution’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Paul Agboola has publicly addressed concerns regarding the disciplinary action taken against nursing student, Mr. Seyi Ogunjobi.

The student had accused the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Yinka Majekodunmi, of subjecting him to both physical and verbal abuse—claims that prompted swift administrative scrutiny and widespread attention within the medical community.

During a recent interview with newsmen in Abeokuta, Dr. Agboola revealed that while he was away on official duties in Abuja, a formal petition outlining the alleged assault was delivered to his office.

Recognising the gravity of such accusations, Dr. Agboola said he immediately initiated a formal probe designed to unearth the truth behind the claims and to guarantee that all proceedings would be conducted with fairness and impartiality.

The Neuro Psychiatric Hospital—renowned for its commitment to excellence in medical training and the safeguarding of patient confidentiality—responded by assembling a comprehensive investigative panel.

This committee, according to the CMD, drew expertise from across various professional sectors within the hospital, including two senior nursing personnel, doctors, as well as the director of Dr. Agboola himself presided over the process, demonstrating leadership and accountability at the highest level.

“We have two medical doctors in that panel, we have two very senior nursing officers in that panel, we also have head of pharmacy and physiotherapy”, the CMD stated,

One of the key figures in the investigation panel was Mrs. Majolagbe Kafayat, Head of Nursing Services.

She recalled that the alleged incident occurred on June 30, 2025, and that it instantly raised concerns among hospital staff.

Acting swiftly, she partnered with her colleague Dr. Ibrahim to evaluate the situation and recommend procedural steps aligned with institutional standards.

“According to the story given to the panel and what was written down by the accused and the response of Dr. Majekodunmi, the only witness brought by the student, was not able to really give substance to most of the things” Majolagbe stated.

“As part of the investigative protocol, both the complainant, Mr. Ogunjobi, and the accused, Dr. Majekodunmi, were invited to provide their narratives. Witnesses were also requested to give statements. However, the only witness presented by Ogunjobi admitted to having limited knowledge of the situation, noting that he merely observed Ogunjobi in an emotionally distraught state but lacked details about any confrontation. In contrast, Dr. Majekodunmi firmly denied any physical interaction, and several other students echoed his version of events, reporting no evidence of misconduct.

“In light of the findings, the investigative panel concluded that Mr. Ogunjobi had not provided compelling or verifiable evidence to back his serious claims. Consequently, disciplinary measures were implemented, including his temporary suspension from academic activities.”

Demonstrating empathy and engagement, Ogunjobi’s father later reached out to Dr. Agboola, expressing appreciation for the hospital’s role in educating future healthcare professionals and pleading for a fair and supportive review of his son’s case.

Dr. Agboola reassured the public and hospital stakeholders of his unwavering commitment to nurturing the academic journeys of all students under his care.

He clarified that no student would be barred from examinations due to disciplinary procedures and reiterated his dual mission of ensuring high standards in patient care and student development.

Looking ahead, Dr. Agboola issued a heartfelt message to parents and guardians, urging them to cultivate integrity, resilience, and accountability in their children.
