Ogun 2027 Guber: Beyond Politics, Senator Yayi Remains A Rallying Point To Emancipate Ogun West – Group

ABEOKUTA- A socio-political group, Ogun West Initiative, has described Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi representing Ogun West Senatorial District as the most prepared and qualified candidate to lead the state after Governor Dapo Abiodun, citing his experience, performance, and wide acceptability across the three senatorial districts.

The group spoke on Friday, through its convener, Mr. Bolaji Adeniji during a media parley held in Abeokuta, describing Adeola’s mid-term performance as “unprecedented and transformative” in the history of the senatorial district.

According to Adeniji, Ogun West is determined and resolute more than ever before to produce the next governor of the state.

He posited that, the inequality and injustice that the Yewa-Awori people suffer would ultimately be addressed through political power, stressing that the call for power shift to the senatorial district was not out of pity but out of the consciousness of a new paradigm bothering on meritocracy.

He specifically singled out the Chairman, Senate Appropriation Committee, Adeola Yayi has someone with a genuine fulcrum, describing him as a unifier, a bridge-builder and someone who already has deposited in him, all the ingredient for transformational leadership.

“Ogun West is again at the threshold of history in our 50 years search for equity and emancipation. More than ever before, we are determined and resolute in our quest to produce the next governor of Ogun State. We are persuaded that the inequality and injustice that the Yewa-Awori people suffer will ultimately be addressed through political power and we are not demanding for this out pity but out of the consciousness of a new paradigm bothering on meritocracy.

“In YAYI, Ogun West, for the first time, has a genuine fulcrum, a unifier, a bridge-builder and someone who already has deposited in him, all the ingredient for transformational leadership. His selflessness and dedication to projects and programmes that directly enhance the dignity of the citizenry not only distinguishes him as a rarity, it positions him as the best man to take over the mantle of Ogun State leadership from Prince Dapo Abiodun by 2027.

“While we thank him for all he has done and still doing for the people, we are not surprised at the loud and growing call across the state for him to keep a date with destiny and we hope he will heed that call soonest.

“As I round off this address, please permit me to deflate the poisonous balloon being blown around by some disgruntled elements in Ogun West and their collaborators from outside. In their inability to engage YAYI on the points of merit, they disparage him with cheap lies and deliberately crafted falsehoods at different times. The latest of such is the new tag of desperation being put on him. We bother to ask, YAYI is desperate about what? A man who has been consistent in the last twenty-two years doing the same thing of elevating the lives of those who trust him with their vote to serve them – cannot be labelled as desperate. If facilitating developmental projects, empowering the people towards better welfare and ensuring that the dividend of democracy touches the people – are what they call desperation, then we hereby urge YAYI to be more desperate to improve the lot of his people the more.

“It is unfortunate that indolent and uncreative politicians are idling away in their cocoon and hoping that a mystic whirlwind or some contrived falsehoods will yank off YAYI from the political scene paving the way for their own forlorn ambition. Let them be told that they are living in delusion and they had better wake up and brace up for real contest. Senator Adeola has not precluded anyone from chasing their ambition but has rather remained focused on his own strategy and winning everyday.

“The gubernatorial ticket of Ogun APC will not be won by the infantile ranting and cacophonous effusion of some misguided young ones on social media; neither will it be won by the cry of those who have ambition to contest but are not ready to labour and compete squarely – but merely waiting for the ticket to be dropped on their laps like the biblical manna from heaven. In their morbid fear, they built their top strategy on getting YAYI off the race. We deem this as so low and preposterous.

“YAYI has become the rallying point for the people of Ogun West. He embodies the qualities of a bridge-builder and transformational leader. His leadership capacity, legislative experience, and developmental footprint have positioned him as a front-runner for the 2027 governorship race,” he added.

While addressing criticism in some quarters, the group dismissed claims of desperation surrounding Adeola’s potential gubernatorial ambition, describing such narratives as “baseless propaganda” from political detractors.

“Those who cannot match his performance have resorted to falsehoods. But the people know better. If working hard to uplift his people is desperation, then we want more of it,” Adeniji said.

The Ogun West Initiative emphasized that political stakeholders in the region are closing ranks to present a united front in 2027, stressing that the clamour for equity, justice, and fairness must be reflected in the state’s leadership rotation.

He lauded the lawmaker representing Ogun West Senatorial District, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, for executing over 250 constituency projects and empowering more than 40,000 residents within two years of his tenure.

According to Adeniji, Senator Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, has deployed a multidimensional strategy that has resulted in massive infrastructural development, robust legislative performance, and large-scale empowerment schemes that have positively impacted lives across the five local governments in Ogun West.

“In just two years, YAYI has delivered over 250 projects cutting across education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development.

“This includes classrooms, libraries, ICT centres, primary healthcare facilities, roads, boreholes, transformers, and streetlights, among others,” Adeniji stated.

He added that the senator’s flagship Mega Empowerment Programme has directly benefited over 40,000 constituents, while more than 5,000 students received bursaries and scholarships.

“Senator Adeola’s interventions have cut across all demographics—students, farmers, traders, artisans, and the elderly. From cash grants and start-up kits to school buses and ambulances, his approach has been holistic and impactful,” he said.

On the legislative front, Adeniji noted that Senator Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, has sponsored 10 bills, including the one that converted the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro to a Federal University of Technology, and another seeking to establish a Federal College of Geological and Cement Studies in Iselu, Yewa.

“These achievements speak to his pedigree, brilliance, and commitment to the advancement of Ogun West and the entire state,” Adeniji said.

The group also used the platform to push for a power shift to Ogun West in 2027, arguing that the district—dominated by the Yewa-Awori ethnic nationalities—has remained marginalised since the creation of the state in 1976.
