ABEOKUTA – Some motorcyclists, otherwise known as Okada Riders, operating in Ijoko, Ado-Odo/ Local Council of Ogun State, have staged a protest to express their grievances over the killing of their colleague by a member of the transport union levy collector popularly called Agbero.
One of the agberos was said to have stabbed a member of the Okada riders to death on Tuesday night during an argument between the deceased and agberos over N100 ticket fee
The incident sparked outrage as members of the Okada riders operating in three communities – Lambe, Agbado and Akute – took to the streets on Wednesday and challenged members of the agberos, demanding justice for the death of their member.
A rider, identified as Ganiyu, explained that the deceased was arguing with the agbero over the N100 ticket fee before he was stabbed with a knife.
“The man was stabbed to death by one of the agberos during an argument over the ticket. The agbero suddenly brought out a knife and stabbed him,” he said.
Another rider who identified himself as Rasheed said that two people were stabbed during the dispute, but one survived, and the other died.
“They were fighting over a N100 ticket. It started as a small argument before it escalated on Tuesday night. The person who was killed is one of the motorcyclists from Nasarawa.
“His colleagues are the ones now confronting agberos in Lambe, Ijoko and parts of Akute,” he said
The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, is yet to respond to Whatsapp call or messages sent to him inquiring if anyone had been arrested as at the time of filling this report.
Our correspondent, however, gathered that the police arrested some people during the Okada riders’ confrontation with some agbero members.
