Ogun PDP Hails Court Judgment, Tells Ogundele, Jimi Lawal To Stop Chasing Shadows

ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has applauded the Federal High Court judgment on the eligibility of the party to conduct its 2023 ward congress.

A governorship aspirant of the party, Otunba Jimi Lawal, had challenged the party’s authority on the conduct of the party’s primaries in 2023.

But Justice A.J Adeyemi of the Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta in case number FHC/AB/CS/124/2024 (Chief F. I. Akande & Others vs PDP & others), on Monday dismissed the suit for lack of merit.

Reacting, the PDP Publicity Secretary in the Otunba Kayode Adebayo commended justice Adeyemi for his uncommon courage at dismissing the frivolous matter challenging the right of the party to conduct its internal affairs such as party congresses as enshrined in the party constitution.

Adebayo said the judgment demonstrates the judiciary’s commitment to upholding the tenets and values of internal democracy and enriching party administration.

“While savoring the significance of this landmark judgment, we wish to congratulate members of the State Working Committee as ably led by the state chairman, Alh Hon. Abayomi Tella and the entire party executives, across all level and all distinguished party leaders who have patiently waited for the judicial process to run its cause. We dare say that today’s victory is a huge win for all PDP members and supporters in Ogun State and beyond. Clearly, there is “no victor, there is no vanquished.”

“The party, therefore, extends its sincere hands of fellowship to any aggreived person. It is time to join hands together and strengthen our great party. Every sincere member must be reminded that the PDP has a duty to rescue the good people of the state from the unpardonable incompetence and begging irresponsibility of Mr. Dapo Abiodun and his All Progressives Congress, APC government, which, with reckless abandon, has successfully messed up the entire fortune of our dear state since inception.

“In conclusion, in the spirit of oneness, the party wants to encourage our immediate past chairman, Alh. Dr. Sikirulahi Olawale Ogundele, his co travellers, and facilitators to wake up from their slumber and accept the reality.

“There is no need for anymore to continue to chase shadows. It is time for him and others who are ready for genuine political rehabilitation to cooperate and align with the renewed vision of the PDP to dislodge the rudderless APC from power. Now is the time to return home as the umbrella is big enough to accommodate all legitimate interests.”
