Ogun Police Honours Ayo Ogunlowo With Award In Public Safety, Security Infrastructure
ABEOKUTA – The Nigeria Police Force, through the Ogun State Police Command, has honoured Ayo Ogunlowo with Award for Innovation in Public Safety and Security Infrastructure.
The award recognises his leadership in the conception and development of Gateway Shield, a technology-enabled public safety platform designed for Ogun State to support policing operations and enhance community safety.
The award was presented by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force. The presentation reflects the Command’s recognition of innovation that aligns with its policing objectives and operational priorities within the state.
Gateway Shield was designed and deployed with Ogun State as its primary focus, addressing local security challenges through structured reporting, real-time alerts, and improved coordination between residents and the police. Since its launch in September 2025, communities actively using the platform have recorded an estimated 30 per cent reduction in reported crime incidents, driven by easier access to reporting, faster information flow, and closer collaboration with police units.
Gateway Shield makes reporting straightforward and accessible through its mobile application available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as via web access and toll-free reporting lines. This allows residents to easily report cases, share verified alerts, and engage responsibly through structured channels that support police operations. By removing long-standing barriers to reporting, the platform has made community policing more seamless and strengthened cooperation between the public and law enforcement.
Speaking during the presentation, Oluseyi B. Babaseyi highlighted the importance of practical tools that support trust and collaboration between citizens and the police.
“Gateway Shield supports improved engagement between the police and the public by encouraging responsible reporting and timely information sharing,” he said.
Reacting to the award, Ayo Ogunlowo said: “Gateway Shield was built for Ogun State to support the police and empower citizens to play an active role in keeping their communities safe. We are coordinating with the necessary stakeholders to scale this across Nigeria.”
Beyond crime reduction, Gateway Shield has contributed to stronger working relationships between communities and the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State, reinforcing trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility for public safety.
The award highlights the Nigeria Police Force’s continued support for technology-driven, community-focused solutions that enhance public safety outcomes. Gateway Shield will continue to work closely with the Ogun State Police Command and other stakeholders as it expands its impact.
