Ogun West Is Demanding For Governor On Meritocracy, Democratic Fervor, Not…., – Adeniji
ABEOKUTA – The Convener, Ogun West Initiative (OWI), Mr. Bolaji Adeniji has disclosed that the consistent agitation for power by the Yewa/Awori region was not of right, pity, or mere concession but on meritocracy and democratic fervour.
The Ogun West Initiative is a sociopolitical movement pushing the frontiers of the conversation on the political renaissance, economic development, and social growth of Yewa-Awori in Ogun West Senatorial District.
The group, at a press conference held in Abeokuta on Monday, lamented that, despite the inherent economic potentials and human resources, Ogun West has continued to crawl and occupy the back seat in terms of all indices of inclusive development.
Adeniji argued that Ogun West remained underdeveloped compared to Ogun Central and Ogun East due to lack of access to political power since the creation of the state in 1976.
He pointed out that successive governors have neglected the economic potential growth of the region, stressing that the Ota-Agbara industrial cluster, which contributes to a substantial part of the state’s IGR has became relic due to bad infrastructure and lack of good faith by both present and previous administrations.
The soft-spoken OWI Convener stressed further that the vast arable land and topography of Yewa North local government was enough for an agricultural revolution in the state and its value chain effects if more attention was given by the government.
Adeniji, who blamed the missed economic opportunities in Ogun West, bemoaned the decrepit condition of road infrastructure, education, health, and human capital development.
Adeniji also pointed out that the inequalities and injustice in power disparity can only be addressed through political zoning to Ogun West Senatorial District in 2027.
“We are not demanding for power as of right, pity or mere concession as previously done, but there is a new paradigm and intentional shift in the agitation for governorship this time around; bothering on meritocracy and democratic fervour that is oozing from the district and saturating all over the state at the moment.
“Ogun West has come of age, and the fault lines that have denied us over the years are now being closed up. The zone is putting its houses in order, and as of today, there is a convergence and aggregation of opinion backed by strategic action to ensure unanimity of purpose, leading to Ogun West presenting a formidable front for 2027. While we are building bridges and structures and creating necessary handshakes with the other zones, we are meticulously putting in place the needed electoral infrastructure towards a successful campaign,” he averred.
He continued, “For close watchers of political development in and around the Gateway state, it is an undeniable fact that Ogun West has become the epicentre of activities and that the gravitas of politics has shifted to Ogun West; suffice to say that our desire to have the Chief Executive of the state for 2027 is no longer a sectional agenda but a popular demand that is being accepted and even promoted by our brothers from Egba, Ijebu and Remo”.
Adeniji, therefore, commended Senator Olamilekan Yayi for his giant stride development across the Ogun West Senatorial District, declaring that Senator Yayi was worth giving the Executive power come the 2027 gubernatorial election.
“The unmatched representation of the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations via facilitation of people-focused projects and lavish empowerment of constituents, has closed up the deficit in Ogun West today.
“Significantly, his humongous impact again advertises the district has having individuals with capacity to implement a pan-Ogun developmental agenda if given the opportunity to serve at such executive level.”
