Olokuta-Eruwon Residents Call Out Hon. Olumide Osoba, Senator Salisu Over Construction Of Community Road

ABEOKUTA – Residents and motorists of Olokuta and Eruwon Titun in Kemta, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Ogun state have called on the lawmaker representing Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi-Owode federal constituency, Hon. Olumide Osoba and the Senator representing Ogun Central, Senator Shuaib Salisu to ensure the completion of the ongoing Olokuta community road.
The Olokuta Eruwon road which connects over 40 communities and serves as a main link to the popular Wole Soyinka Train Station, had been in a deplorable state for the past 10years, leading to protests and outcry by residents of the communities.
When journalists visited the community on Tuesday, it was observed that construction of the drainage system had began from Olokuta bridge to Eruwon which is about 600 meters construction.

The project, facilitated by Hon. Moruf Afolabi Afuape, lawmaker representing Abeokuta South federal constituency commenced from Olokuta bridge and suspended at Eruwon junction before MTN mast.
Speaking to journalists, the Chairman, New Eruwon CDA, Mr. Adeosun Olotun commended Hon. Afolabi Afuape for facilitating the project from Olokuta to Eruwon junction which falls under Abeokuta South federal constituency.
According to Mr. Adeosun, leaving the other section of the road unconstructed would deface the ongoing Olokuta road construction.
The CDA Chairman, therefore, appealed to the lawmakers representing Ogun Central and Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi-Owode federal constituency to liaise with the contractor to ensure the continuation of the project.
“I will start by appreciating the facilitator which is honorable Afoo on behalf of our CDA. We thank him for the job well done. He was here during the campaign in 2023 and promised to do something if elected, but we thank God that he is a man of his word. The road construction started about two weeks ago now, and we could see the progress. And we are so happy. Everybody is jubilating that construction has started, but the only thing that is of a burden to us, is where the project stopped.
“If they stop the construction the terminated point, it won’t stand a test of time, except the whole stretch of the road is constructed down to Wole Soyinka train station. If they should stop at that point they are stopping the project, erosion will wash away everything and we will be back to the basis again. So, the best thing is to complete the road down to the train station so as to control the gully erosion.
“We want to implore the concerned authorities to join hands together and ensure they extend the construction to the train station. The lawmaker representing our local government, Hon. Olumide Osoba and our Senator Salisu should come together and save us. Olokuta is under Abeokuta South, but Eruwon is under Obafemi-Owode federal constituency which Hon. Olumide Osoba represents.”
Also speaking, the site project engineer, Victor Ishola of Gosima Group of company his company was only commissioned to construct 600meter Olokuta.
Engineer Ishola noted that, the project shall be delivered second week of February, 2025 after which they will leave the site.
He, however, warned that, if the other section of the road is not constructed, it will create room for erosion to wash away the ongoing Olokuta road construction.
He equally appealed to the lawmakers representing the area to assist the community and Hon. Afuape for the extension of the road to Wole Soyinka train station.
“Our starting point is just that bridge to where we are now, with about 600 meter. So, we are praying that the honorable should extend the job after this, because the community needs the extension because of the flood problem they’re having here.
“The implication of the abandoned road is that it creates room for flood wash away. This is our advice, because the flood needs to be taken care of from the route. This flood is coming from somewhere, and it’s coming to meet at the middle of this road construction. So, they need to take it to an extent where we can arrest the situation from the beginning. We can only beg the lawmakers to assist this community and ensure the durability of this project, if not, the flood coming from the train station will wash away everything we are doing here”.
