Peace Ambassador Soremekun Preach Religious Tolerance For Sustained Peaceful Coexistence

ABEOKUTA – An Ambassador of Peace, Dr. Busayomi Soremekun has reiterated the need for society to embrace peace, as it is not just an option, but a necessity.
Soremekun made this known at the End-of- The-Year Eminent Peace Ambassadors peace Summit shortlyaftwr inducted as Eminent Peace Ambassador, held at the Mar-Rock International Hotel and Suite, Siun, Ogun State, with the theme: Building Bridges for Peace; Panacea for Sustainable Development and Social Justice, noted that peace starts from the family.
He noted that the award is a call to duty as he is expected to be an evangelist of peace, saying the rules of the United Nations and SDG would be strictly followed, as well as other laws that governance and ambassador of the UN.
While responding to what could be done to achieve world peace, Dr. Soremekun hinted that there’s a need to eradicate cultural and religious beliefs, and respect the beliefs of one another, admonishing young Nigerians to always embrace peace as conflict can not resolve matters.
“Peace resolutions, roundtable discussions are the best ways to hear one another’s opinions. We should see ourselves as one and unite. By doing this, peace is inevitable in our society”, Amb. Soremekun said.
Also responding, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo represented by ACP Akinmolade Olumo, submitted that peace is a state of calmness, rest and joy where citizens can fulfill their God-given potentials, adding that no nation can thrive without peace.
The Commissioner stated further that the Police were given a core mandate by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Police Act of protecting lives and property, maintain law and order, saying the government has directed that any violations be met with swift action, including apprehension and prosecution, to uphold peace and maintain orderliness.
“Anything that would not allow us to be what we want to be or intends to be, that threatens our existence is working against our peace. In the absence of peace , there’s anarchy, oppression, depression which would eventually lead to destruction. That is what the absence of peace can bring to a society”, he said.
The Country President of the International Association of World Peace Advocates, HRM Oba (Dr.) Joseph Adeogun Ogunbona, the Olu of Igbore, revealed that the IAWPA is an international Civil Society organisation operating as a non-profit making entity with a global mandate to promote peace and appoints credible personalities whose lifestyle are anchored in promoting peace as Eminent Peace Ambassadors across the 193 member states of the United Nations.
The Royal Father also said the IAWPA is an organization of business technocrats, innovators, social entrepreneurs and highly professional persons who have been pledged to uphold the highest ethical standard of the United Nations and have been so consistent in providing solutions that will make the world a better place.
“Members of this organization believe that world peace can easily be achieved by dialogue and by the act of fellowshipping together as a concerned people with mutual feelings of unity under one indivisible banner. The mandate of the IAWPA is the maintenance of global peace and international security and the restoration of human dignity”, he said.
