Remo By-Election: Elegbeji’s Victory Is A Referendum Of Gov. Abiodun’s Acceptability – Oginni, Arabambi Admit

ABEOKUTA – The recent victory of Mrs. Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the just concluded by-election for Remo Federal Constituency held on August 16, 2025 has been attributed to the influence and developmental achievements of the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) National Secretary, Comrade Olappsi Oginni and the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi at a joint press conference on Wednesday said one of the reasons the ruling APC won the by-election on Saturday was as a result of mega projects Gov. Dapo Abiodun installed in Remo federal constituency and being the home ground of the sitting governor.

Both Oginni and Arabambi noted that as an opposition members, they cannot continue to criticize the incumbent government unconstructively without objectively assessing the situation.

They both called for calm, urging all parties to accept the outcome and prioritize the state’s stability.

According to Oginni, anyone who is dissatisfied with the outcome of the August 16 by-election should seek legal redress at the court of law and stop fomenting trouble.

He said, “As a national officer of an opposition party, Ogun State is my state and I have every right to hear my opinion on any matter that concerns all as citizens.

“The outcome of the Remo Federal Constituency by-election was conducted in a transparent manner. And it is not surprising that the APC won the election if you look at the mega projects done by the governor in the local government.

“The Agro cargo airport is a multi-billion naira project that has open up development in that area, so it is natural for the people to show appreciation to the governor by voting massively for the governor’s party.”

He added, “As an opposition, we don’t every time come out and say that we want to criticize; it must be a constructive criticism. There will be other opportunities for political parties to contest elections.”

In his own submission, the Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi said the results of the by-election has demonstrated Gov. Abiodun as a leader who inspires, motivates, and guides others towards a shared vision.

He said, “Leaders are not just managers, but also visionaries who empower their teams and foster a positive environment for growth and success. They lead by example, earning respect through their actions and decisions.

“The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision. It’s got to be a vision you articulate clearly and forcefully on every occasion.”

“Governor Dapo Abiodun actions has inspired the people of Ogun State to dream more, learn more, do more for themselves.

“The by-election held on the 16th day of August 2025 for the Remo Federal Constituency consisting of Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North LG where 17 political parties participated and in the end the candidate of APC Hon. Mrs. Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji was declared winner is commendable.

“The APC candidate scored 41,237 votes against her closest Rival Bola Oluwole of the people Democratic party is a referendum by the people of the state as a measure of acceptance and vote of confidence.”

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Ogun state, Comrade Abayomi Sanyaolu, stressed the importance of peaceful elections and legal redress.

“Nobody prayed for anybody to give a slum or to die if my candidate won the election,” Sanyaolu said.

“If there is anything that is not okay for all the political parties, I believe what we should do is to just take them to court. That’s what I believe. I just want peace in the state.”
