ABEOKUTA – As a reward for hardwork and commitment to the club, the President, Remo Stars Football Club, Otunba Kunle Soname has donated the sum N28million for the players, coaching crew and supporters club.
Soname made the pledge on Monday at a reception held at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun state to appreciate the players, technical crew and supporters club for qualifying for the CAF Champions League and coming second on the log of Nigeria Professional Football League.
Otunba Soname who hinged the success of the club on hard work and structured football development.
According to him, if a development is not structured, the success will be intermittent.
“What propelled us to this level is hard work and structured development. If a development is not structured, you will keep having bits and pieces of successes. But if the structure is developed, this is the kind of thing you see. You see development back to back because it is structured.”
The Remo Stars President, therefore, called for the establishment of privately owned football clubs in the country to galvanize the economic development of the Nigerian football league.
He said, “for me, to be honest, until that happens, we’re not going to see the kind of development we crave or desire in this country. We need to have at least out of the 20 primary teams, we need to have at least 10 of them privately, then, it is at that time, that economic development we’re seeking can come.
“To be honest, it is what needs to happen. But can it happen in the next two, three or five years? I can’t see it happening for now. But that is what we need. For private people to take ownership of the government clubs, but it must be private participation in the league for you to really develop and blossom.”
Otunba Soname, therefore, gave out the sum of N20million to the Players and additional N5million to the coaching and medical crew.
The supporters club also went home with the sum of N1.5million naira while the media crew also carted away the sum of N1.5million naira.
