Senator Daniel Seeks FG’s Intervention On Grain Reserve In Ikenne

ABEOKUTA – The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has appealed to the federal government to ensure the speeding completion of the grain reserve in Irolu, Ikenne local government area of Ogun State.
Senator Daniel, who spoke on Sunday at the continuation of his BATOGD midterm assessment tour, said the facility would serve the people of Ikenne not only as a monument but as a machine for food security and job creation.
He maintained that the silos would also serve as one of the strategies to guarantee food security and sufficiency for Nigerians.
According to him, when completed, the silos will absorb over 10,000 workers.
“Before this rally, we inspected the Federal Government Strategic Grain Reserve in Ikenne. It is time that the multi-billion-naira facility serves the people of Ikenne; not just as a monument, but as a machine for food security and job creation. “No federal project should live in darkness while the host community starves beside it.
The former governor noted that the abandoned Livestock dairy farm in Ikenne which was halted at the twilight of his administration in 2011 has been reactivated in principle and would be pushed for consideration through the Southwest Development Commission (SWDC).
“The dairy farm was designed to create over 10,000 employment (of skilled and unskilled workforce under its value chains in small and Medium-Scale enterprises).
“The good news for our people in Ikenne also is that when we had the opportunity to serve the people of Ogun State as Governor, we concluded a partnership arrangement with a multinational company, ZAMBEEF of Zambia for the establishment of a major Livestock dairy farm, with other components on meat production and Leather Processing.
“The take off of this was affected by the political crises in the twilight of our administration as the State could not access the Bond financial instrument part of which was to go into the funding of this project. I am happy to report back to you that this project is now being reactivated in principle, and this will be pushed for consideration through the new South West Development Commission (SWDC).
“The dairy farm was designed to create over 10,000 employment (of skilled and unskilled work force under its value chains in Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises).”
Speaking on the creation of Ijebu state, Daniel noted that disagreement over the new state has been laid to rest as the senate approved the creation of the state.
He advocated for cooperation between Ijebu and Remo, emphasizing that enemies don’t want peace to reign.
