ILORIN- Residents of Lafiaji Community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State were thrown into panic on June 10, when suspected terrorists launched a swift and coordinated attack on the community.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants struck in the night, targeting Mayfold Poultry and Agroallied Farm. Frozen chickens, cash, office computers, poultry products, and other valuables were stolen, leaving the farm in total chaos.
“They came in large numbers, shouting and firing into the air. Everyone ran for their lives.”
“They took everything they could carry and disappeared into the forest before anyone could stop them,” said a farm worker who requested anonymity.
Local vigilantes were unable to confront the attackers due to their heavy weaponry and fast escape on motorbikes.
“We tried to stop them, but they were too many and too well-armed. They were gone before reinforcements arrived,” a community member explained.
The attack has left many residents shaken, with fears forcing them to abandon their homes and farms.
“We rely on these farms for our livelihoods, but after what happened, people are fleeing,” said Mr. Yusuf, a nearby farmer.
Patigi and Edu Local Government Areas in Kwara North have witnessed a wave of banditry over the past 48 hours, including killings and kidnappings.
In Ifelodun, Kwara South, several residents, including two teenage girls, were abducted on Monday evening.
Security experts warned that the attackers are highly organized, operating from forest hideouts that make them difficult to track.
They urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid confrontations, and report suspicious movements.
Community leaders are calling for urgent intervention from the state government and security agencies to restore safety and protect both lives and livelihoods.
