ABEOKUTA – Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday, arrested a 36-year-old man, Sunday Akintobi suspected of trading in human body parts.
Akintobi, a resident of Itoku area in Abeokuta, was arrested through credible intelligence by SWAT operatives in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Omolola Odutola in a press statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday said further investigation led to the arrest of two additional individuals: Oladimeji Olaniran (male, 40 years) and Isaiah Tijani (male, 38 years).
Odutola said a search of their residences led to recovery of body parts believed to be human remains.
She said human parts such as cerebral bones were also recovered from a location disguised as a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Kobape town and along Abiola Way in Abeokuta.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct discreet investigation into the case to establish full involvement of the suspects in this heinous crime.
The command, therefore, urged members of the public to refrain from shielding criminal elements and to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
According to the PPRO, such cooperation is crucial in curbing ritual killings and other violent crimes in the state.
