8th NYG: Again, Ogun Finishes 6th On Medals Table With 11 Gold, 11 Silver, 15 Bronze medals
Team Ogun at the just concluded 8th National Youth Games held in Asaba, Delta State defied all odds to climb up the medals table to be named among the top 10 winners.
Team Ogun which paraded the most youngest athletes at the National Youth Games were denied opportunities to win more medals as some of the state’s athletes were disqualified for their exceptional performance record in previous Youth Games.
The Ogun Team retained their 6th position on the medals table held last with 11 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze medals to bring the total medals of Ogun State to 37.
Team Delta emerged champions of the 8th National Youth Games for the second consecutive time.
With 46 gold, 31 silver and 34 bronze, totalling 111 medals, the host State of the Youth Games were declared winners at the closing ceremony held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, on Thursday.
They are closely followed by Team Lagos, who had 26 gold, 20 silver, and 19 bronze medals, while the third position goes to Team Edo, comprising 18 gold, 13 sliver, and 28 bronze medals.
Recall that Delta hosted the 7th edition of the Games and topped the medals table with 51 gold, 34 silver, and 11 bronze medals.
They have won all editions of the National Youth Games from 2016 to date.
Meanwhile, 35 states, including the FCT, won medals excluding Ebonyi State, unlike last year when it was about 27 states, while Rivers State are the only State that failed to participate.
