KANO – Barely 24 hours International travelers passing through the newly built terminal at Mallam Aminu International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano protested the extreme discomfort they faced due to malfunctioning air conditioning systems, travelers boarding Air Peace flight from Kano to Lagos state on Friday night were thrown into darkness.
THE ENCOUNTER NEWS reports that despite temperatures soaring to 43 degrees Celsius on Thursday, the cooling units at the terminal are unable to provide relief, leaving passengers feeling as if they are being roasted alive.
It was gathered that the terminal, commissioned on May 26, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari at a cost exceeding $500 million, was a collaborative effort between Nigeria and the Chinese government under a built, operate, and transfer agreement.
However, on Friday night, passengers who were already enraged with the flight rescheduled by Air Peace airline for the 20:40 flight to 23:59 were shocked when the electricity supply went off for about 10mimutes at about 21:49.
Immediately the power went off, the Executive boarding lounge was thrown into darkness and passengers resorted to self help with their mobile phones torch light to illuminate the boarding lounge.
