Stop Probe Of APC Chairmanship Aspirant, Eskay, League Of Registered Political Parties Urges OGHA

ABEOKUTA – League of Registered Political Party has called for the suspension of the ongoing probe of the immediate past Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government, Hon. Sikiru Adesina (ESKAY) by the Ogun State Assembly.

Recall that last week, Ogun State House of Assembly last week began probe into allegation of illegal sales of land belonging to Ewekoro Local Government of the state, by the immediate past administration of the Council’s Chairman, Hon. Sikiru Adesina.

Sikiru Adesina is seeking re-election as chairman of the local government under All Progressives Congress (APC).

The probe was sequel to a petition forwarded to the Assembly by a group , under the aegis of ‘Concerned Citizens’ in the local government.

The petitioners accused Adesina of engaging in unlawful sales of government land and as well failed accountability among others in the local government when he was the council’s boss.

At the Assembly’s siting, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) Ewekoro local government, Mrs. Kemi Ogunyewo denied outright sales of the land, maintaining that the affected land were leased to companies and private individuals for a period of 99 years who signed to the payment of a paltry sum of N10,000 per annum on each acre for a period of 99 years.

But reacting on Monday, the League of Registered Political Parties described the petition against Hon. Sikiru Adesina as vindictive and out of bitterness.

The political parties in a letter signed by its Chzirman, Sunday Olaposi Oginni and addressed to the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly on Monday said the petition against Hon. Adesina was borne out of ill feelings, and coming at a time political parties are busy to select candidates for the November 16 Local Government Election.

The League of Registered Political Parties cautioned the Assembly from being used as an agent of vendetta and blockage for the aspirations of notable politicians who have served the state in one or two capacities.

The LRPP asked the House of Assembly to suspend any probe of the former Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government Hon Sikiru Adesina ( ESKAY) until the conclusion of the November 16 Local Government Election.

He said, “Recognizing the fact that the said petition was born out of ill feelings and the fact that the timing is very wrong because of the ongoing processes of Primary Election Exercise to select candidates for the November 16 Local Government Election, the League of Registered Political Parties cautioned the Ogun State Assembly from been use as an agent of vendetta and blockage for the aspirations of notable politicians who have served the State in one or two capacities.

“The above named Organization is using this medium to call on the Speaker and the entire members of Ogun State assembly not to allow some desperate politicians to use the hallow chamber of the assembly Probe Panel as instrument of vendetta and blockage for aspiration of some immediate past Council Chairmen who are willing to re contest the November 16 Local Government Election.

“The League of Registered Political party frowned and condemned in totality the timing of the invitation of Hon. Sikiru Adesina (ESKAY) the immediate Council Chairman of Ewekoro Local Government by the House of Assembly.

“It is pertinent to state here clearly that we are not shielding the former Chairman from making explanations and clarifications on the allegations at an appropriate time but not this time that the Primary Elections that will provide candidates for the November 16 Local Government Election is ongoing.

“In the interest of Justice, equality, and fair play we hereby request for the suspension of any probe or panel with connection to any Local Government Election Aspirants till after the November 16 election.”
