ABEOKUTA – The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi, Omooba Damilare Oloyede, has declared that opposition parties in the state lacked the strength to challenge the ruling party at the 2027 general elections in the state.
Oloyede noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has found a “capable, trustworthy and deserving” candidate in Senator Adeola Yayi for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
He described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “non-existent” in Ogun State and said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has little or no presence to threaten the victory of Senator Yayi at the poll next year.
He dismissed the PDP’s chances of mounting a serious challenge, arguing that the opposition lacks the organisation and leadership needed to win public confidence.
Speaking in an interview at the weekend in a Facebook live program, “Gateway Unscripted” anchored by Julius Oyedokun, Oloyede described the party’s endorsement of Senator Yayi as historic, noting that it marks the first time past governors and aspirants in Ogun State have unanimously backed a single candidate.
According to him, the development signals the emergence of a unifying figure within the state’s political landscape.
He maintained that, the endorsement was a declaration itself, as Senator Yayi has not officially declared his intention to run for the office of the governor, stressing that the campaign would be the emergence of the governor-elect, expressing confidence in the APC’s dominance ahead of the election.
He added that Yayi’s popularity, grassroots reach, and perceived dependability made him the preferred choice of the party and its stakeholders.
Oloyede also linked the endorsement to the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, saying the current government has laid a solid foundation that requires continuity.
He argued that Yayi is well-positioned to sustain and build on the achievements recorded under Abiodun’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda.
Defending the party’s consensus approach, Oloyede said it was adopted to prevent internal crises and preserve unity.
He noted that while the party has many qualified aspirants, the decision to settle for a consensus candidate would strengthen its structure rather than weaken it.
“Consensus prevents crisis. Instead of dissipating energy through internal contests, the party has further strengthened itself,” he said.
He also maintained that the APC is focused on sustaining the gains of the current administration while positioning itself for electoral victory.
On Yayi’s credentials, Oloyede highlighted the senator’s over two decades of governance experience, expressing confidence that he would “hit the ground running” if elected.
Oloyede concluded by calling on residents of Ogun State to rally behind Yayi, adding that the senator is already advancing the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Tinubu across Ogun West.
“The administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun with the mantra of building our future together has laid a very solid foundation that in future, we need someone that is in tandem with what Governor Abiodun has achieved, and that is where Senator Adeola stand towers.
“For the APC, the party has built itself as a party that understands leadership and cohesiveness. If you look in Ogun state, we have numerous, quality aspirants that can be Governor, so the party has decided that let’s not have brick bath of ideas, and decided to chose the best among them.
“The party wants to sustain the gains of Governor Abiodun’s government, secondly the party want to win elections.
“Consensus prevent crisis. What the APC has done is to ensure the party remains the toast of others. Imagine what the PDP and ADC has become. Going into primary contest, it is not just a contestation of ideas, but contestation of structure and influence. So the APC in Ogun state, instead of decipating energy of going into primaries, the consensus further strengthen the party.
“I don’t think we have opposition parties in Ogun state. The PDP seems to be non-existent, the ADC seems to be not in Ogun state at all. So it is as if as saying the endorsement is a declaration of governor-elect.
“PDP is in no position to struggle out electorate confidence with senator Yayi. Up till today, they don’t know their National Chairman. Everybody should team up with Yayi government. We should not be busy with ourselves with unnecessary politicking with people who can see defeat already.
“Yayi is a man that is coming to the seat of the governorship of Ogun State with not less than 20years experience in governance. The people of Ogun State should be rest assured that Yayi administration will hit the ground running immediately.”
