
ABEOKUTA – A 24 year-old fashion designer, Tairu Razaq has emerged winner of the heavyweight category of the 15th edition of Ogun State Boxing Hall of Fame held in Abeokuta, the State capital.
Rasaq, outclassed his opponent , Talabi Samuel across three rounds to win by unanimous decision at the event held on Saturday at the Alake Sports Complex, Ikeja, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Similarly in the earlier bouts decided, Waheed Olanrewaju of Voltrom Boxing Club defeated Victor Ojo of Champion Boxing Club with the same unanimous decision in the 65 kilograms category.
In other bouts, Quyum of Emirate Boxing Club outpunched Rokeem Oyakojo of 3 Star Boxing Club by another unanimous decision in the 60 kilograms category.
In the 50 kilograms category Jamiu Alabi of Ofada Boxing Club won against Gabriel Emmanuel of Champion Boxing Club, after the referee stopped the fight mid-way into the contest, while Quyum Oyakojo of 3 Star Boxing Club defeated Opeyemi Ogunwale of OKB Boxing Club by split decision of 4-1 in the 55 kilograms category.
Also in the female bouts decided, Fathia Gafar of De Shield Boxing Club emerged winner against Aliyah Olalekan of Perry Knucle Boxing Club by another split decision of 4-1 in the 51 kilograms category while Omotolani Akinyemi of Shadow Boxing Club defeated Anuoluwapo Soyombo of 316 Boxing Club in a very close fight in the 57 kilograms category by a split decision of 3-2
In another female bout, 48 kilograms category, Ayomide Mayowa of YUCATECO Boxing Club dominated the fight against Taofikat Adepoju of Kings and Queens Boxing Club, winning by a unanimous decision 5-0.
The exciting tournament was organized by Ogun Hall of Fame in collaboration with the Ogun State Boxing Association.
The Ogun Hall of Fame sponsored by former Minister of Finance, Chief Wale Edun both in Lagos and Ogun State has produced over 100 elites boxers who have represented Ogun State and Nigeria at national and international events.
Commending the organizers, the Ogun State Government said the Hall of Fame has created platform for the youths to exhibit their talents and skills.
The Commissioner for Sports Development in Ogun State, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka represented by the Director of Sports in the state, Mr. Seyi Sonde thanked the ex-finance Minister, Chief Wale Edun for giving future to the youths and promoting boxing in the country.
