2027: Believe Movement, Ogun West stakeholders Declare Support For Adebutu’s Governorship Bid
ABEOKUTA — Thousands of residents of Ogun West Senatorial District, comprising Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, community leaders and other stakeholders, on Wednesday, endorsed the governorship ambition of the party’s candidate, Chief Oladipupo Adebutu, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement came during a stakeholders’ meeting held at Tetede Hall, Ilaro, where supporters from across Yewa-Awori reportedly turned out in large numbers to receive the PDP governorship hopeful.
Speaking at the meeting, a leader of the Believe Movement from Imeko-Afon Local Government Area, Chief Akinbami Lukman, said the group resolved to support Adebutu’s aspiration in what he described as the overall interest of Ogun State.
Lukman, who spoke on behalf of members of the movement that recently aligned with the PDP, assured the party’s candidate of the group’s commitment to mobilising support across the district to ensure victory at the polls.
Also speaking, the leader of the Door-to-Door Foot Soldiers, Mr Jimoh Azeez, said members of the youth organisation would work towards Adebutu’s emergence as governor.
According to him, Nigerian youths are now more politically conscious and would determine the outcome of the election through their votes.
“We won’t say they will write the results. We will mobilise, vote and stand by our votes. Our ruling class should know that it is a new dawn. They can continue to go round leaders and traditional rulers; we are the ones on the field. They will be shocked. We will protect Yewa’s turn for a true son of the soil with no controversy,” he said.
Other speakers at the meeting commended the philanthropic activities of the Adebutu family, saying the family’s contributions to the welfare of the less privileged had been remarkable even without occupying public office.
They expressed confidence that Adebutu would prioritise the welfare of the people if elected governor.
Representatives of the Awori community also declared their support for the PDP candidate, saying their endorsement was based on their conviction that he possessed the capacity to protect the dignity and interests of Ogun State.
Responding, Adebutu expressed appreciation to the people of Yewa-Awori for what he described as the overwhelming show of love and solidarity.
He said he was deeply encouraged by the warm reception accorded him from the entrance into Ilaro up to the venue of the stakeholders’ meeting.
Adebutu noted that he had always supported the governorship aspirations of Yewa sons whenever they emerged as candidates of different political parties, adding that his administration, if elected, would ensure equitable development across all parts of Ogun State.
“I am very happy with the determination that I am seeing here. Democracy belongs to the people, and the people must speak through their votes. We have only one Ogun State, and together we must protect our heritage,” he said.
The PDP governorship candidate also paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ilaro, where he was received by members of the traditional council.
