ABEOKUTA – Organisers of the Great Abeokuta 10KM Race, IN Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), have announced a change in the date of the 2026 edition of the race.
The race, earlier scheduled for September 26, will now hold on Saturday, October 3, 2026, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management Limited, Mrs Yetunde Olopade, explained that the adjustment was necessitated by plans and arrangements that could not be overlooked in the preparation for the prestigious road race.
Mrs Olopade assured athletes, sponsors, partners, spectators and other stakeholders that the change in date would not affect the quality, significance or overall plans for the event.
“We have had to adjust the date of the Great Abeokuta 10KM Race because of some plans and arrangements that we cannot overlook. However, I want to assure all our stakeholders that the race will retain all its significance and everything we have planned to make it a top-class event remains firmly in place.
“We are committed to delivering another memorable edition in Abeokuta. The change in date will not in any way diminish the standard of the race, and we are looking forward to welcoming athletes and other stakeholders on October 3.”
The race will commence at 7am from Macjob Grammar School, Onikolobo, with participants making their way through the designated routes before finishing at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto.
The 2026 edition remains a strictly local race, with participation restricted to Nigerian athletes. Despite the local-only format, the organisers have maintained the prize money at the same level traditionally offered at the event, giving Nigerian athletes an opportunity to compete for substantial financial rewards.
Meanwhile, kits collection will commence on Wednesday, September 30 and run until Friday, October 2, at the parking lot of the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta.
Physical registration forms can also be picked up and submitted at the All Stars Office inside the sporting arena.
