Abeokuta South APC Leaders Shortlist Shomide, Delu, Akamo As Chairmanship Aspirants
ABEOKUTA – Tension, suspense surrounding the chairmanship candidate of APC in Abeokuta South local government of Ogun state may have finally laid to rest as party leaders have unanimously shortlisted three top contenders as Chairmanship aspirants for the forthcoming local government elections.
After a spirited screening 0and review of the aspirants’ antecedents, party leaders in the local government have nominated former Caretaker Chairman of the local government and a loyalist of Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Ayomide Michael Shomide, an ex-banker and seasoned economist, Tunde Delu and Hon. Sunday Akamo, a former Councilor from Ward 4 as the preferred candidates for the coveted position.
It was gathered that the three candidates, all from Abeokuta South Constituency 2, emerged from a pool of over 23 aspirants who initially expressed interest in the race.
Other screened aspirants include the former Chairman of the council, Omolaja Ayodele Majekodunmi could not make the list due to the party’s decision to focus on aspirants from constituency.
The party leadership was said to have described the decision as a strategic move by the party’s leadership, claiming that constituency 1 has produced several high-ranking political figures, including two ministers, a commissioner, the senatorial chairman, and the chairman of the Local Organizing Committee for the National Sports Festival.
According to the leader of Advocate of Good Governance from the local government, Comrade Steve said the selection process was peaceful and transparent, marking it as one of the most orderly political runs in recent times for the area.
“This decision reflects the commitment of the APC leadership in Abeokuta South to ensuring fairness and balance in political representation,” the source noted.
According to him, the peaceful selection process was a testament to the leadership’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and dedication to the prosperity of Abeokuta South local government.
He commended party leaders for their exemplary leadership and vision in guiding the selection process.
He said, “the APC leadership in Abeokuta South Local Government is pleased to announce the successful completion of the candidate selection process, where Ayo Shomide, Tunde Delu, and Sunday Akamo have emerged as the top three preferred candidates for the upcoming Abeokuta South Local Government Election.

Tunde Delu, brings over two decades of comprehensive experience in banking and consulting, specializing in sales,marketing, and public sector finance management.
His career highlights include roles as Regional Head for the Ogun State Public Sector Group at Polaris Bank and United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Branch Manager at Ecobank Abeokuta. He has leadership experience that spans from business development and relationship management to strategic oversight of regional public sector operations. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Delu is committed to philanthropy, focusing on education and youth empowerment.
He supports local sports programmes, believing in their ability to foster teamwork, discipline, and youth engagement. His contributions provide resources for aspiring athletes and scholarships, positively impacting his community.
A seasoned economist and an alumnus of the prestigious University of Ibadan, Delu is an individual achiever and a community leader.
