Akingbade Challenges Tinubu to Account for Abducted School Children Amid Victory Celebrations
IBADAN – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been urged to take a moment to critically appraise the nation’s security architecture and ensure the safety of innocent citizens, especially school children recently abducted at Yawota, Oyo State, and in Borno State.
Mr Theophilous Akingbade, Civil Society Advocate made this call in a chat with newsmen at Ile Kongo, Ogbomoso, Oyo State on Monday.
Akingbade while congratulating Tinubu on his victory at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Primary held over the weekend in Abuja, hereby challenged him to make sure that these innocent school pupils are released on time.
He added that their release should be Tinubu’s priority and must never be postponed until after elections in 2027.
Furthermore, he stated that while this ticket may be important to his political future, one question readily comes to mind, is it equally important to the school children kidnapped in Yawota, Oyo State and Borno State.
“Nigerians deserve answers. What has become of the Forest Guards that were reportedly recruited and trained? What happened to the weapons purchased to equip them?
“To how many states have these security personnel been deployed? How many were posted to Oyo State, and where is their operational office located within the state?
“If none were deployed to Oyo State, then Nigerians deserve to know why.
“Mr. President, as you celebrate this political victory, I urge you to take a moment to critically appraise the nation’s security architecture. The safety of innocent citizens, especially school children, must never be postponed until after elections.
“We must not wait until more innocent lives are lost before decisive action is taken. No one knows how many children will still be alive to witness the elections, let alone the outcome. Security must come first,” he concluded.
